Title: Abandoned
Post by: James2 on September 17, 2017, 08:18:10 AM
Long forgotten and left out to pasture. This model represents a broken down car that was meant to be repaired but life got in the way.
Tools left behind, missing parts and pieces still sitting where they were left, a tarp hastily draped over the dissembled engine. The racer had every intention to return and finish his work, but that just never happened. Time, weather and nature are the only things working on the once winning Short Tracker now days...

Made from a Tobias chassis, some Big Donkey wheels and my imagination. I took this to the Shenango Valley Show Saturday and was quite surprised and honored to recieve 1st place in the dirt track class and also the Tim Reeher Memorial Award for best oval track racer. Thanks to the IPMS Club and Dave Taylor Sr for their hard work putting on this show.

It took nearly two years off and on to complete, but I am pleased with the out come. Thanks for looking.

Congratulations James. The model is very well done and deserves the award.

The race car just looks like one that would be sitting out back of an old garage somewhere.

:)  What all they have said is true. It is really great, and I am so glad for you.

I have plans of my own for a similar one down the road sometime.

:)  You know, I would be really interested in how to create a flat tire.

:)  You know, I would be really interested in how to create a flat tire.

Well first You have to have a tire than you just let the air out!
Just kidding, I cut a section of tread out a little longer than it was wide, leaving the side walls intact. Then I slightly heated the rubber side walls and smashed the tire down on a piece of cool marble/granite until it look flat. Let it cool, detail and install.   ;)

:)  Thanks.  I will save that.

Just wondering if you could stick and glue a piece of ( used ) chewing gum on the bottom of a tire, and glue it up with some kind of liquid cement, and then paint it flat or semi gloss black.

Maybe I will try that first, as I have no marble or granite.  lol  Or gum.

I'll risk a stick or two of  gum while I am out tomorrow.  8)

:)  Thanks, David.  It was just an idle thought that went through my mind and I voiced it quickly without any thought.

I guess there is liquid rubber at the hardware store, which might work if it would accept glue.

Won't be working on that for awhile anyway.
