I think the 301 was a simply bored out 283 with a stock crank. The 326 was actually about 338 cu. in. But GM wouldn’t let Pontiac put the correct cu. in. On the fender, because it would make their 327 cu. in. Corvette look wimpy. I believe the 326 Pontiac was it’s own special block, not a destroked 389. My brother had a 64 tempest that had one in it, and it sure looked smaller than a 389.
I was just curious about the 301cu. In designation on the hood, since I knew they didn’t make anything remotely close to that engine size in 1961.
