Title: Post 2 or 3 of your favorite builds.
Post by: Tom Birky on April 06, 2022, 02:54:16 PM
To get some creative juices flowing here, I'm inviting everyone, especially those that maybe lurk here and don't post often, to post one, or two or three of your favorite builds. They don't have to be perfect, or detailed or anything else, just a favorite. As an example, I'll start with my yellow #95 that was rebuilt from a total glue bomb, the other two don't even have engines in them, but I enjoyed building them. Let's see how many cars we can show off here.

Tom,

Those are nice. #71 looks like cars I saw on Maine race tracks some years ago. I only have this one to show at the moment. This is a 1/25 scale model of the actual 1:1 car my best friend and I built in the spring of our last year in high school in 1966.

I worked on this one for too long. Hardest thing about trying to replicate a car that you actually built is not easy as you try to incorporate everything you remember from the real car. Now  I am in the middle of the next one. John Beauchamp's 60 Chevy Impala. Just got body painted yesterday. Beauchamp and his mechanic/car builder Dale Swanson came out of Harlan, IA, a small place in western Iowa and together achieved a lot of national recognition. This was testimony to their skill and ability to put winners together. I love how 2 small town boys showed how it is done over such a large part of the country. I am going to build models of several of their cars as a tribute to those 2. The "Coggin Chevrolet" car will just be another of several I hope.

I am somewhat dismayed at the lack of interest in STM lately.  I came here for a while and read the entries and thought WOW there is a lot of good stuff going on here. Thought I could learn a lot and have some back and forth with some guys with similar interests. I love the history of racing cars and like to toss that in when I can. Seems like a great place to belong to. It only takes 5 or 10 minutes to make a post and contribute to the dialog. Building these is way more worthwhile than watching TV. And adds to the body of knowledge. I know there are others here with way more model building skill than me, lets keep that going.

First build after a 20 plus year hiatus from 2007....fictional local street stock from the 1979 season.

First C.B.P that I can remember finishing  ::)  This was from the Oktoberfest 2019 C.B.P that had from Sept. 21st to Oct. 6th to complete......kind of surprised myself in that I completed it in 2 weeks as slow as I am with building.

First use of weathering for a finish.  First build to be entered into a model show for judging.  First build to receive awards....one from an A.M.P.S sanctioned show and another from an I.P.M.S sanctioned show in 2021

  You always remember your first.

I like all of these above. Some replicas of real cars and some from good imaginative minds.

Keep them coming guys. Every time I see a new post on this thread I get to thinking "gee I ought to build a car something like that one".

This stuff keeps those creative juices flowing and I like that a lot!
