Title: Modified Mack Pumper Hauler
Post by: TarheelRick on August 27, 2017, 03:28:46 PM
This section looks sort of empty so I thought I would fire the opening shot.  I posted this one on Fred's quite a few years back, I think sometime in 2009.  Started life as the 1/32 Mack Pumper Fire Truck. The majority of the pumper body was removed, the rear section of the cab from just behind the door was removed, turned 180 degrees, and raised to make a sleeper compartment.  The bed somewhat resembles a roll-back and is completely scratchbuilt.  I may do the bed again, make it a bit wider, longer, and see if I can figure some way to add a simulated lift mechanism.

Man Rick...this is a very cool Race Team. You've done some mighty fine Fab work here and it really shows.

Thank you for all the compliments.  This is one of my favorite builds.  Shortly after I finished it I made some pictures and gave them to my uncle Odell, he was really pleased.  Since then he has passed away with cancer.

I've got a real soft spot for 1/32 scale models - I have built up over thirty different Aurora, Lindberg and Pyro rods for my collection.

Your team proves just how effective these models can look, especially when they are built with the refined skills of an adult modeller, as distinct from being slapped together by an eight year old back in the sixties and seventies!

Great execution in the conversion of the fire truck - it is totally believable.
Cheers
Alan

I have another one down the road a ways, similar concept, but using completely different vehicles.  Biggest issue is finding racing tires and wheels in 1/32 scale.  Thanks for the good words.

Hey Rick...I also have a few 1/32 builds on the "to do" list. I found that AMT, Monogram makes a few Nascar kits (snap) that has pretty good tires and wheels. Revell also made a few Indy car kits and those have Great tires. They also have a detailed engine in them. A person can also go to the 1/32 slotcar Venues and get some GREAT racing tires and Wheels...all though they're a little spendy. I did get a set for a 1/32 962 that I want to build. As far as dirt tires go...one has to make them for themselves..as far as I know.
