New Super modified WIP
« on: July 16, 2019, 09:38:26 PM »
Here's one of my newer WIP's, a 1960's southwest style supermodified. I've got the body shape that I was looking for, it has a bit of Grant King some of the Lindberg T and some scratch built bits. On to the frame and suspension.

Really cool! Looks very much like Jelly Willhelm's famous #99, driven by Harold Leep. I'm excited to watch this one.

Gary, the model is somewhat based on a car from Albuquerque. Johnny Capels #6. One story i've heard is that the 99 car was built after Capels took his car to the Knoxville Nats. in the mid 60's.

Going to be awesome to watch this one come together.  Being on the East Coast I did not see this type car run, but they are beautiful to look at.
When I win the Powerball I will switch to the real ones.

A number of well known cars of that era resembled your project. Another two that come to mind are the "Payola" and "Twister" cars built by Hank Arnold and Roger McCluskey in Tuscon. Can't wait to see this one as it progresses.

I managed to get a little more work done on this project, still a long way to go. I like the way it's coming along though. looking ahead to paint, what color to use. If I model it after the Capels car it could be orange, metallic blue, red or sort of a gold. What to choose?
