Title: Well, I did get this one finished recently... and it flies (sorta)
Post by: Hondo on December 12, 2018, 08:13:39 PM
Recently finished this for an old friend back home in Carolina. He flew on these Boeing KC-135-A refuelers.
First aircraft model I've built in many moons.
He sent me some reference photos and I tried to get it as close as possible to his aircraft.
(Yes, those little black lines on top of the wings are decals. A LOT of fun)
I delivered it to him in October, wasn't gonna try to ship it.

...Looks exactly like what flies over my humble abode....Forbes field , home of the Kansas Coyotes 190th Air Refueling Wing, Kansas Air National Guard, here in Topeka is just a few miles from the house.

Spent many a day crawling all over these things trying to find radio/communication problems while stationed at the now closed Carswell AFB, in Fort Worth.  Got to fly to Hawaii in one on my way to Korea.  Watching that Boomer do his thing is truly amazing.  Oh yeah, beautiful rendition of an amazing aircraft.

Great job on the plane, Hondo. It can be tricky to get paint to look like aluminum, and not just silver.

:)  Hondo,  I should have asked the wingspan in inches.

THR & Brian,
Yes, this aircraft is/was such a valuable part of our flying military.
They are getting pretty old now, but with many upgrades they will serve for many more years.
(They did do some of the upgrades over at Pemco in Birmingham, AL but I think that changed about 10 years ago)
Of course there's the KC10s, KC46/KC767 that are the next version.
