I ruined the clearcoat on this Torino, so i decided to build a junker from it.
This is my first rusted model, i´m planing a junkyard only for old and abandoned racecars.

:) You know, David, this is true. I think ( some ) guys like us have built so many models, trying to make them correct and beautiful that we ( they ) need a different challenge, and now days to mess them up is appealing to many.
I think this is what is going on in the 1:1 world with rat rods. I HATE RAT RODS. But you know " to each his own. " If that is what they want to do, they certainly can, but it is not for me.
Not against a little weathering and rust, though.
Just me.

Nice build Michael,
I can tell a lot more work went into this build, than on one that looks brand new, and is going to the track for the first time.

To be honest, my weathering and rusting skills are just at the beginning, allmost everything on this Torino
happend accidentally. I tried a few things and it worked.
But i´m not 100% satisfied with the result, imho. the rust is to thick and not 100% realistic.
I have to learn and practice a lot for my planned racecar junkyard diorama. There are 15-20 cars which i want to dent and rust.
A friend of the Wendell Scott´s family contacted me a few years back and asked me to sell him this model.
He has a very cool collection of Wendell model cars and says he must have the rusted Torino.
I told him that i rather would build a new (old) one, because it was quite easy to build a rusted modelcar, I thought!
It was very difficult to replicate the Torino, to build a good and reaistic looking junker is a lot of work, i didn´t expect that!

Michael, those are two of the best retired race cars I have ever seen done. The weathering and detail is astonishing. With the right back ground they could easily pass for 1:1 vehicles.

I just saw your builds and was totally blown away by the weathering employed on these cars and Wendell would be blown away if he could see them. You certainly have a great skill set for weathering.

...Those Torinos look like some of the old war horses that I have stumbled across , deserted in some field some where. The weathering is perfect with out going excessive over board.
