John Moss '34 Ford Completed
« on: November 14, 2017, 08:16:09 PM »
Got the '34 coupe finished.....Yes, this was "Big John" Moss in his early years.  This car competed around area tracks for at least six years with several drivers.  Moss captured the 1960 Season Championship race at Tunis Speedway in Waterloo, IA in this car.  Having seen only one color photo of the car (from 1963), I painted this from memory of earlier years, and I think this car was a lighter, charcoal color at the time.  The sponsor (also the car owner) apparently could only afford paying the sign painter for one side of the car - that which faced the grandstand.

Originally planned to use the kit hood, but it was pretty thick...made one from .008 tin.

Homemade decals....I improvised on the "&" symbol - couldn't find any font with that version so I 'desperately' tried to hand letter it and of course, made it too large.

:)  Well, this is absolutely great.  The & is only too   big for you.   Very minor thing to be worried about.  I love it.

I think we had a few with the number only painted on the grandstand side.  lol

The pleasure of these old warriors is, that things could have just about been anyway that worked.  Like the mismatched wheels on the trailer.

Most headers are not cool, but those are.

A good one, Bob.

This is a dead on replica build Bob. Replica builds are my favorite and this is very clean and well done.

Outstanding job on the Johnny Moss Ford there Bob! I sort of came along in his "Camaro Days'...so I never saw him race this, but I love the work and detail you put into it! Another cool replica of an Iowa great! Thanks for posting pics.
