1954 Herb Thomas Hudson Hornet
« on: July 04, 2018, 03:58:06 PM »
Finally finished this one. I started on it back in November, but I bought the wrong kit. I finally got the right kit in April so when I got a break, I decided to go ahead and finish it, since I had already made the decals for it. This is the car that Herb won the 1954 Southern 500 in Darlington. He qualified 23rd but was able to win the race by outlasting his faster competition. I was very impressed with the Moebius kit. It is very well engineered to go together very easily. I did not even have to glue the body to the chassis because it fit like a glove, and I didn't see the need. I can't say that for the glass though, it was just the opposite. The whole build took 71.5 hours , 14 of that was for the decals. I know some of you think I got the wrong color but I painted it to match pictures of the real car I found. The museum cars are very beautiful cars, but the real car was not metallic blue. It was light gray with a slight blue tint. I didn't quite get enough blue in my color mix but its close enough for me.

Here is the real car.

Well, another super slick clean one for your collection Supertex.  I have a few of these in the stash so if it goes together as well as you say, I might build one soon.  I can see they do take a lot of BMF!  Keep em coming, I never get tired of this stuff.

:)  That is a really nice model,  and interesting 1:1.  They really wanted you to know it was # 92, didn't they ?

I always enjoy looking at your builds and what it took to finally arrive at the end result....needless to say this is an outstanding build.
Who are you getting your decal paper from?  The company that I had been getting my White and Clear from for years sent me an e-mail announcing that they where going out of business a few weeks ago.

Brian, I had been getting my decal paper from hobby lobby, but they quit selling the white paper, and now they stopped selling the clear too. So I have been getting it from micro mark lately. it has the same markings on it that the testors paper I was getting from hobby lobby had on it, so I think its the same stuff, except it comes in 8 1/2x11 sheets instead of 5 1/2x8 1/2 sheets that testors sold.

Hey thanks, much appreciated...I'm set up for 8.5" x 11" anyway so that will work perfect.
