Title: (FINISHED) Regester Chevrolet #6, Driver Mitch Smith 1967 season
Post by: Bob P. on June 20, 2017, 09:57:15 AM

This is the CAE chassis car driven by the late Mitch Smith in 1967. The 67 season in central Pa. was the first year that converted sprint cars were allowed to compete. This was also the first year wings were allowed. John Register decided to go with a new CAE car and try to compete with the sprint cars. He was very successful at Port Royal speedway, winning the first eight feature events at the speedway and nine wins for the year. They also had some wins at Williams Grove speedway with this car in 67. John could see that the converted sprint cars were taking over and ordered a new Don Edmonds sprint car for 1968.

Too answer your question Slim,

This car was built by Regester Chevrolet in Thompson, Pa. It raced in central Pa. mostly at Port Royal and Williams Grove speedways.

David,

The white, on the decals, is thin white vinyl on water slide decal paper. The white number is applied first, then the black accent applied over top of the white. The white was applied on the wing first, then the red was applied over top of the white, with the word "Mitch" left clear so the white shows through.

Greg: You may want to comment on this question or explanation.

I "think" I get how he is doing this and it's kind of genius in its own way. Hey Greg, flesh this out a little bit because this could very well be a real game changer for us replica dudes out here!! ;D ;D

Bob, I love the way you chase every detail , every shape, every proportion on your replica builds so that they look soooooooo right!  Some of your recent builds are spooky close to Aussie cars of the era, except we rarely got the fancy wheels out here.

Cheers
Alan

Bob nailed the explanation of how the decals are made.
Unfortunately, the vinyl has a limitation in that small lettering can't be made,
at least not in white, or other "regular" colors. I have made some script lettering in 1/64 scale
using chrome mylar. That was a real challenge, and I'm not offering to do that all the time, but it is theoretically possible...

Bob you build out standing Pa. mods the details are right on. I remember seeing them in the racing papers and the Cavalcade mag.

Do you have anything new to share with us?
