Yeah, I know, it's not a short track anything but it is open wheel.  87 Senna V-6 Turbo Lotus F1---The Tamiya 1/20 kit.   Every once in a while I go off and do some odd ball stuff.

Found a couple of old MPC 1/20 scale McLaren Mk 8D Can Am cars recently to replace the one I tossed out during one of my move purges.....which I still regret now, but not back then......

  Carrying on a previous conversation about radiators from another thread.

...I'm guessing that is the radiator on the forward part of the drivers side pod....forced air enters the front and exits the side....no fan pulling or pushing the air.

Might as well add a few more F1 cars here.  These were fun and all were the Tamiya 1/20 series kits which assemble well and look nice when finished.

Never was interested in these types of cars. Having said that, I do recognize super work when I see it!! This is really great stuff, excellent detail work. Well done Turns, well done!!

Tried a couple of F-1 kits back in the mid '70's....though I think were either 1/24 or 1/25.....somewhere I think one of the still exists,
The 2nd one did not survive because of the tires as compared to the 1st on. That one was a black Lotus....
However parts of that kit were used elsewhere....

Now.....if had the $$$$, I might try another one.....

Those are some fantastic builds!!!  I built one way back in '71 when I was in the Air Force and as I recall it was a very detailed and accurate model for its day.  All I can remember is that it was 1/20 scale and red plastic.  I must have enjoyed building it because I finished it.  I think it got lost in the shuffle of several duty station moves overseas and back.  Might have to try another someday.  Yours are beautiful builds and there's no shame in building them!!!😎👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🏁

My gosh, George. These are all awesome builds. Sometimes the indy cars run at Richmond, so no problem posting them here. Isn't Richmond considered a short track? I mean technically we could post drag racers here because they run on a quarter mile track and that is definitely a short track.

Yeah I know, they aren't supers or modifieds but they are open wheel race cars.  Maybe, just maybe it might give someone the bug and they will BUILD SOMETHING. 
First up, Leyton House CG901 March for 1990.  Ivan Capelli driver.   Car used V-8 JUDD Power.


1991 McLaren MP4/6.  Gerhard Berger Driver.  Last F1 car to use a manual transmission or V12 engine. 


1989 Ferrari 640 (F1-89) Nigel Mansell driver.  Pit Stop Scene


Pit crew is the Tamiya 1/20 crew set, the early version. 



1991 Lotus 102B.  Mika Hakkinen driver.  JUDD V-8 Power



Last one---1962 BRM F1.  Graham Hill Driver.  This is a white metal Auto-Kit from the UK. in 1/24.


The left rear looks kinda ragged so I just tell the story that Graham used it up on his last qualifying lap.  These kits are different for sure.  Tools are a file, sandpaper and steel wool.  you gloo it up with epoxy.  Paint is British Racing Green Automotive Lacquer over Duplicolor primer and rubbed out.  This is the only metal kit I have done and I do not plan to do any more.  I got my fill with this one.  I will be glad to answer any questions you may have however I may ignore rivet counters.

All of these kits are Tamiya 1/20 scale.  There are a number of these kits available of the later cars and you can still find kits of the older ones.  The only one I posted that is not Tamiya is the metal kit of the 1962 BRM.  Some of these can get pricey but just shop around.  They are molded very crisp and go together very well.  They also take to extra detailing very well.  I have the 1975 McLaren M23 of James Hunt to build with photo etch details from Tamiya.  I will keep you up to date on it when I start.  Matter of fact, that may be just the project I need to break this slump.  Give one a try, I think you would love it.
