This is going to be a shelf replica of the Bobby Abel number 2 raced in central Pa in 1964-65 and 66.
Bobby was the car owner and driver. He raced at Lincoln, Hagerstown, Williams Grove, and Susquehanna speedways.
He won many feature events with this car.

I started the build with a Don Edmunds kit.
The frame is lengthened and some modifications.

All of the below body panels are made from .5MM aluminum flashing.
The firewall is fabricated as part of the hood.
Lower right hand corner shows the front shock towers.

The wheels and tires are for the mock-up only.
Side window opening on roof and lower body still need some final grinding and fitting.

Thanks for looking.

David,

I use the front wheels that come with the Edmunds kit on some of my builds.
I will use them on this kit.

Larry at Big Donkey has those wheels with a separate knock off hub. The tires come with the wheels.

The front wheels and tires on the 17 are from Larry at Big Donkey.

I made a little more progress pictures below.

Radius rods on front. I use the rear radius rods for the front on these builds.
Engine wired, screen was taped over the top of the injector tubes, in the mid sixties in our area.
Rub rails attached.
Shock towers installed.
More sanding and finishing on the hood and roof.

Thanks for the comments guys.

David,

I just made the hood long, then cut the front piece off, sanded the angle on the back for the slope I wanted. I taped it from the bottom and used the CA glue and baking soda to glue the seams. As I learned from you that makes a very strong joint. I then filled the seam with light coats of glue, applying baking soda on top of each coat of glue. Using this method I didn't need a any body filler.

Thanks again for all the tips you and others post to help all of us.

Here's a small update on the build.

Hosted on Fotki

Frame painted, radiator hoses installed. seat, dash, and steering wheel in place.
I also installed front brake lines on this build. Check out the material I used for the brake lines in the photo below. Purchased material at Walmart.
I think this would also work for hood hold down straps.

I have all the body panels painted orange. I used Rust-Oleum paint.
The roof will stay orange. I need to wait several days for the orange to dry, then tape off the hood and lower body and apply the blue.
The blue is Testors 1211 gloss dark blue. I tested this on a piece of scrap. It worked out well, lets hope it works on the real thing.

This is really looking good Bob. That orange sure POPS. It's going to look killer with the Blue.

This is a small update on the paint work.

I need to let it dry for a couple days, then apply the white stripe between the blue and orange.
I will be using thin white vinyl tape for the stripe. I have a friend, who went by Drummer 55 on Fred's old forum. He is a sign painter and he slit the white vinyl tape for me on a small machine he has.

Thanks for the nice comments.

The white stripe will cover up any defects in the blend between the blue and orange.
