Completed 10-31-2017 53 Stude LSR

Well, I'm suddenly "into" old Studebakers and since I had the underpinnings leftover from the Modified build, I thought I'd build a Salt Flats car with it. I am using an old Flintstone LSR body I had laying around but I intend to continue with some heavy modifications to it. I have soaked it to get the release fluids off of it but I have not really cleaned up all of the flash as yet as that comes with areas that I work on as I go. So far I just have the basic frame modified to get the stance, I've whittled and sanded out some tires and have added the first (of several) "fins" to it starting with the top. I'm also in the process of scratching out a snorkel hood intake. Very early in the build but here's where I am on it. (Those wheel covers will not be final and are simply "vision mules" for me)

Excellent work David.
I agree with John, this is a wild looking build.
The thing I admire the most about your builds, is your outstanding skill, working with plastic and your body work.
I don't know anyone that can modify plastic bodies and have them look like they came from the factory like yours.
Also your paint work is also outstanding.

David;
That's no mystery motor, it's a Studebaker/ Packard 352 from a late fifties Golden Hawk. I would have liked to have seen twin turbos instead of a blower ( just because Studebaker experimented with turbos a lot) but, blowers are cool too. These motors were powerful, and indestructible, and made pretty good power for their time.

WOW
David, as you remember we talked some time ago about salt flat cars. I have wanted to do one, albeit pretty well a stock car, but just never have gotten to it. We all dream more than we can accomplish. Perhaps one day I will get one done.
Anyway, this is fantastic, and as much as we all love short track, this may very well be my all time favorite of yours.
Just truly great.

Thank you. It is really a matter of which one you want to do most at the time. We will see.

Just some thoughts added.
You have to give it to the salts racers. They spend a tremendous amount of money and time preparing cars to race only a couple of times a year, tow them from all over the country, race in front of nobody, with little sponsorship, and risking their lives, for a mere penny on the dollar. That is dedication.

Simply "outasight"!!! Beautiful build. It amazes me how you can get so much work done like that. If I built that same exact model, it would take six months!!! Oh, and BTW I couldn't build that EXACT model......

David, this Stude is nothing short of fantastic, beautiful, gorgeous, and extremely fast looking just sitting still. I just love the smooth bodywork, especially the front end. Kudos on an awesome build!!!😎👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🤗🏁

Hey David:
I thought you were building a land speed car, all i see is a show car! That is way to pretty to run out there on the salt! Love what you did did with this thing, all the additional wings and that front end is something. I agree with John on this one, hands down one of your best!
