Title: Blue paint match for Petty blue
Post by: Bob P. on September 17, 2019, 07:03:54 PM
I have a friend building an old Petty model.

He's looking for a good paint match for Petty blue.
Any suggestions?

Thanks

Bob

I read that Tamiya French blue is a good match. French blue is basically the same color as the classic Mustang Grabber blue.

Petty blue has been a debate for as long as I remember.  Without getting into all the ideas I have heard I'll just make it simple and it will be close enough for most.   Before 1972 use model master grabber blue.  For 73 and later Tamiya Lt. blue.  There will be some that wont agree and thats fine, whatever.  I truly believe the only way to find the true correct match to petty blue would be ask one of the guys that painted the real thing and I am not sure Petty or any of the others would tell you exactly.  Petty blue has been the best kept secret in Nascar for years.  If it looks good to your eye, use it.
