I'm attempting to build a replica of the Boop's Aluminum castings, number 1 driven by Lynn Paxton.
This was a Lloyd chassis with a big block under the hood. Greg Holland is working on the decals.

Thanks for following along with this build.
Bob
Never really followed the Sprints, down here it was all full-fendered racing. Truly enjoy watching these builds come together and learning of the differences in chassis design. The differences may be subtle or very noticeable; either way they were important changes. Looking forward to updates.
Wow, you really know your sprint cars. And you have the talent to create what you know. I enjoy watching your progress.
Cool build, Bob! Can't wait to see the big block in place!🏁🏁🏁
Awesome subject matter. I'll be watching this one come together and taking notes.
Here's a small update:
I believe all the chassis modifications are finished.

I used a hood from Big Donkey resin.
I had to add the extension down the side of the hood and widen the front of the hood.

I used the kit wing. I inserted a wedge in the wing to flaten the top of the wing.
I removed a little material from the rear of the wing to shorten it slightly.

I used the left wing panel from the kit with no modifications.
I shortened the height of the right wing panel.

Bob
Wow! Looks great Bob! I love the intricate detail on your models - keep it up!
This is really looking good Bob. I also used the Gambler chassis as a base to build my cousin's 410. His chassis was a J&J.

Very nice build Gary.
For as old as those kits are, they still make a fairly nice sprint car build.
Bob
Hey Bob...Thanks for the comp. Man....that Sprintcar your doing is really cool looking. I really like the paint scheme on it. I'd forgotten how small the right side wing panels were back then. They're not that small nowadays..! LOL
Small update 4/7/20
Engine wired and ready to go in the car. Fuel injection and valve covers from Big Donkey resin.

Seat from Big Donkey Resin, I think its a Grat King seat. I modified it slightly to fit better.
Seat belts made from surgical tape and seat belt hardware.

This ones coming a little slow, I'm working on a 1/18th scale sprint at the same time.
Bob
Man, your detail stuff kills me! This thing is killer!
Rett
Man Bob...this is really looking good. The harness sure looks real...
I can tell this is going to be another good one!
Thanks for all the comments, I'll keep posting updates.
My 1/18th scale sprint is 99% finished, so I can get back on this one again.
I'll post the 1/18th scale when it's 100% finished.
Bob
Another small update:
I got the dash in the car and wing braces on the top wing.
I also added a couple more cage braces.

Bob
This is really looking good Bob. What did you use for the gauge bezels? Those gauges look great.
Hi Gary,
The gauge decals are from Greg Holland.
The bezels are small round chrome looking circles, I found in the craft department at Walmart.
There are about three different diameters in the pack. The small ones fit Temp and Oil pressure gauges. The larger one fits the Tachometer, if I use one. I sent the circles to Greg Holland and he made gauge decals to match the sizes.
I apply the decals first. Then when dry, I apply the circle using Future. When the Future is dry I put a puddle of Future on top of the decal inside the circle. I have never had any fall off.
Bob
Very nice, Bob. Way beyond me.
Thank you for the Info Bob. I've been cutting the Bezels from Aluminum tubing. It works fairly well but... It can be a little challenging getting them the same thickness. I try to get them at least 1/2" thick (scale inches...1/2 mm). The next time we go to wally world...I'll definitely hit the Craft Dept. Thanks again bob...
Another small update:
I have the upholstered seat finished.
I bent a thin piece of aluminum for the fuel cap cover area.
The snaps are silver paint applied with a toothpick.

Bob
Can't wait to see this one completed your detail is super and also What kit did the big block come from?
Al
The big block engine is out of a Tobias modified kit.
The valve covers and fuel injection are from Big Donkey Resin.
I have the engine in the build now, but I should have lowered the front frame rails a little more. It still looks OK.
Pictures a little later.
Bob
Small update, decals next and final assembly.
Red stripe is red vinyl tape

Great job on this replica Bob! Did you fab that hood? It looks like a Stanton type.
Man...I just went back and re-read your post on the hood....Question answered...LOL
Thanks again all for following along on this build. Thanks for the nice comments.
I only had one part left over in my parts bin when finished.
It's installed now, the overflow tank for the rear end.
