DK: Hello again, everybody! Welcome to the great state of Maryland! We're here at the Potomac Speedway for the penultimate event in the 2025 Fantasy Cup Series season, the DieHard 100! I'm Dave Knight joined as always by NASCAR legend Darrell Waltrip. DW, we're about to mix it up on the clay for the final time in 2025. How important is today's race?
DW: Dave, we've got 100 laps here today so not a lot of time to put yourself in a position to make a run at the championship. And let me tell you, with the 18 point lead Sheldon Hatterfield has over David Johnson, nothing's impossible but it's gonna be a tall order to knock the 17 team off the top of the heap.
DK: And after this event, we've got the fan vote for the best looking car. The winner receives 5 bonus points so a lot can happen between now and next week in Nashville. The pre race ceremonies have concluded and it's time to fire the engines here at Potomac Speedway!
Race fans, it's time for the most famous words in motorsports! Please welcome our Grand Marshal, motocross and rallycross legend and Maryland native, Travis Pastrana!
TP: Drivers, start your engines!
Green Flag
DW: Boogity boogity boogity! Let's go racin' in the dirt!
DK: Dude Watson got a little better start than David Johnson. the 42D slipping a bit and holding up the inside. Not sure what happened but he's got it up to speed now and settles into 4th place. Billy Hobin manages to get around him for 3rd as Watson now works down the back stretch. The 46 of JR Sealey rides about a car length behind. Johnson brings it through turns 3 and 4. He'll lead the opening lap here at Potomac Speedway.
Lap 14
DW: And we've got trouble in turn 2! Looks like we've got a car over the guardrail!
DK: That's the polesitter David Johnson. His Ford Thunderbird just shot straight up the hill and leapfrogged over the hood of Billy Hobin.
DW: I do see the window ned down on that car and he's moving around.
DK: And he gets his belts un hooked and climbs out of the Purolator Ford. Meanwhile Hobin's Ford's got heavy damage on the right side. His day is done as he limps back to the pit area.
DW: And it's clear that something broke in the front end of Johnson's car that sent him up the track like that. Glad to see him walk away after coming to rest against a tree.
Lap 46
DK: And Dude Watson slides way up the track in 3! He gets his tires biting but that's gonna allow Amy Hilton to take the lead!
DW: Not if the boss has anything to say about it! the 46 shoots to the inside of Hollywood! They're neck and neck out of 4!
DK: And give that lap to Sealey by a few inches!
DW: The 0 isn't done with him yet though. She's gonna cross the boss in 1 and 2. She's got her nose in there. Hollywood's got about a half car length over ol' Razorback down the back stretch.
DK: And she'll solidify that lead as she keeps it low and gets a great run off of turn 4!
Lap 70
DK: Steve Hutson's finally managed to get by the 17 of Sheldon Hatterfield after a pretty hard battle for 3rd. Rattlecan Dan's going to repeat that as he slides by the points leader out of turn 2.
DW: Trouble in turn 4! Kim Johnson loops it around. I think her right rear just brushed the wall. She straightens it out but that's gonna bring out the yellow.
White Flag
DK: One lap to go and the 46 of Sealey has been mere inches away from Hilton's bumper for the last 5 laps. He'll dive to the inside in turns 1 and 2. Hilton hangs tough on the outside but Sealey's in the same spot Hilton was when she took the lead. He's gonna put the same move on the 0 of Hilton in turns 3 and 4, slides up in front and takes the checkered flag in the DieHard 100! What a battle that was.
DW: And that's how you make a last lap pass! He led a lap earlier, lost the lead, and gathered it up to strike when it counted!
