:) Everybody knows pretty much that the tornados have been bad this spring. They have been on all sides of us, but we have been blessed. Our laundry room is in the center of the house, so that is where we go when the weather gets bad.
So, I decided to put some kits in the cabinet there, if we survived one, but lost most everything else. I put a '96 Easy Build Dually, and Wes' new open trailer, and bought a Super Stocker Monte Carlo 03, which I believe is a '71. Added some tools and paint. But I think there is too much age between the truck and car.
Thus, I am looking for one of the Thunderbirds, from, I think '83 - '87 or so. Kulwicki had a 7 Zerex, Donleavy a 90 Red Baron Pizza, maybe Schrader, and Bob Senneker had one for ASA.
I checked Spotlight Hobbies, and they are out of stock, and I cannot remember any of the other mail order places. What are they ? Or maybe someone has a kit I could buy, or trade for the Monte Carlo.
Let me know please.
I think the body style you are looking for, Monogram originally issued in a two car set, then a limited single car with a figure of Davey Allison. Salvino JR has those molds now and did runs of Bill Elliot, Davey Allison and Kyle Petty. Mike's Decals should have some of them. You don't see the originals pop up too often.
Just looked at Mike's, he has several "donor" kits of 83-86 and 87-88 Thunderbirds with out boxes or decals for $24, the latter be the Salvino issue.
There is a combo kit on ebay right now that has the Kulwicki and Schrader cars, the 87/88 era, for around $43 dlvd plus tax and another one for $37 dlvd plus tax. That way you could have 2... molded in white. I have bought several of these kits off ebay over the years.
I had one extra that i coulda traded or sold to ya, until Mike came out with the Kulwicki Zerex decals.
:) Thanks, guys, for this info. I will be checking these out.
Anyone else have any ideas ?
John, I have one '91 model (Bill Elliot) and a couple of '94's if they will help you.
Mike's got some donors in stock.

based on what you described from the teams listed, you are for sure looking for 1987-1988 and not 1983-1986. Kulwicki ran the #35 with Quincy's Steakhouse sponsor and the #90 i do believe was sponsored by Sunny King Ford (or Honda, not sure) in the kits with the 83-86 bodies.
:) Ok. I appreciate everyone's comments, thoughts, and work, and I am glad I caused some discussion.
But ................ here is what I did. I looked at Mike's, and ran up on one of the Georgia Model Products Buicks. Old hands will remember they did several kits with white boxes, and pen-and-ink drawings of the cars. Being somewhat of an artist myself, I love pen-and-ink. They had no sponsors or numbers.
So, I wanted a square body car anyway ( I've never built a Monte Carlo ) and I ordered the Buick. I don't know what year it is, but I do know Bobby Allison was driving one of the newer, smaller cars when he had his career ending wreck at Pocono in '88. So this Buick is from maybe the early to mid 80's. The 03 MC is a '71 I think.
Anyway, I am happy, and I thank you all.
:) Thanks, Rick, for the offer. I am happy now.
:) Got the Buick kit from Mike today, so all is well. :)
If you don't mind me asking, who's car are you going to build.
:) I very rarely build replicas. It won't be any particular car. I enjoy thinking up colors, numbers, and sponsors, often small town stuff. I have done a good bit of hand lettering -- never quite to my own satisfaction. But at 85, with eyesight and steady hands going, well, you know. Still, I can't quite let them alone.
I used to show mine, but no longer know how to do it. My wife is a computer whiz, but we have too much to do for me to bother her with it. But I still love it all.
Thanks for asking.
Good deal. Those first Regals and Monte Carlos that Monogram did are still some of my favorite kits. Go together well and the stance looks great when done.
:) As mentioned in the beginning post, it will go in my " tornado relief " cabinet. May never have to build it, thankfully. Good talking with all of you.

I've been keeping an eye on you there in the Hinds and Rankin co. Mississippi areas thru Ryan Hall https://www.youtube.com/@RyanHallYall He goes live when the weather turns bad....he's live now as I type this with the tornadoes up in Wisconsin.....
:) Thanks, Brian. I did not know about that. But we do have excellent local tv coverage when things get bad. Also, we have a weather radio showing several counties in Mississippi, and several parishes in Louisiana. It sounds pretty loudly. We are only about 30 miles East of the Mississippi River.
