Didn't really know what it is, but I had it done. Nerve block is working pretty well right now. The nurse told me once that ran out, I would know it. What they do is remove the ball from the top of the arm bone, the cup from the shoulder and reverse them so the ball is on the shoulder and the cup is on the arm bone. Supposed to be in a sling 4-6 weeks, then 40 days of restricted duty. Puts a real crimp in rebuilding my hobby room and my fishing.
Hope they were telling you the worst case scenario. I had a complete standard shoulder replacement, in a sling about a week, and once the nerve block wore off, I didn't take anything else. Pain medicine nauseates me, so I took that chance. Lost some mobility, but all in all happy with the outcome. I'll be praying for your recovery.
Hey Rick, I read your entry again. I believe they replaced the joint with a metal one but in reverse of the regular layout. They didn't reposition your real bone parts. They probably made it to the incinerator by now. You must have torn it up pretty good.
I feel for you Tarheel. My wife is a nurse for an orthopedic surgeon. She says that it is a super intense surgery and can be quite painful. Pretty long healing and physical therapy time too. She's going to have to have it done too. She needs it in both shoulders. Gonna do the worse one first, then see how it goes.
:) Rick wishing you all the best in all of this.
"Hey Rick, I read your entry again. I believe they replaced the joint with a metal one but in reverse of the regular layout. They didn't reposition your real bone parts." Yeah, that's what I meant to say. Doc, said it was one of the worse cases of arthritis he had ever seen.
Hoping the best for you Rick. Get well soon. We'll leave the light on for you.
Rick, how's the recovery going. Hope you are getting along better than anticipated.
