DK: Hello and welcome to the legendary Stafford Speedway here in northern Connecticut for the inaugural race for the new FAST Modified Division, the Hoosier 150! I'm Dave Knight and joining me is former Fantasy Cup Series driver ans 3-time race winner Hick Strutlin. At the conclusion of the 2025 Fantasy Cup season this past spring, CEO Craven Morebucks announced the founding of a new sanctioning body. The Fantasy Auto Sports Tour will preside over the Fantasy Cup Series in the spring and the new Modified Division in the fall. Hick, what does modified racing mean to these race fans?

HS: Well Dave, modified racing is the backbone of all stock car racing in this country. They raced on dirt and beach sand in the early days and eventually lead to the founding of NASCAR. To this day, modifieds are a favorite at local short tracks from coast to coast and we've got a new series for these hungry tigers to go on the hunt!

DK: The engines are about to fire. Let's go to our track announcer Johnny Johnson!

JJ: Stafford Speedway, are you ready for some racing!? Let's get this show on the road! GENTLEMEN, START YOUR ENGINES!!!!

DK: And here's the starting linup for this inaugural event. On the pole, in the #76, Donato DiRenzo A.K.A. Rattlecan Dan! Beside him in the bright red #2 Willy's coupe is Bob Herrin! Inside of row 2 is a veteran of the old Atomic Speedway, it's Steve Hutson in the #7. 4th place is the #54 Mustang of his good friend Speedracer. Starting 5th is the familiar 46 of 2013 Fantasy Cup champ JR "Razorback" Sealey. Slim Tunone starts in 6th place in that Studebaker powered #82 Ford. Row 4 is the #8 Chevy of "Rattlesnake" Randy McGillicuddy from Florida and the #5 Ford of Jerry Lawley. And shotgun on the field is the #12 Ford of Skip Itt.

Green Flag

HS: And we're rockin' and rollin' here at Stafford!

DK: And Rattlecan Dan off to a great start. He's Got that Ford Pinto locked to the inside as they come out of turn 2. He's flanked by the 7 of Hutson. Slim Tunone, who started 6th just made a quick pass on the outside of Speedracer. Speed got a little squirrely off the start but back up front it's Dan coming off of turn 4 to lead the first of this 150 lapper.

Lap 21

HS: We've got a heck of a battle here for 5th now. Jerry Lawley just passed Sealey and he's closing that gap on Tunone.

DK: And a little farther up, Bob Herrin's gonna get a nose up under Hutson. NO! He bobbles a bit in turn 3 and slides up into Hutson and both of them go for a ride!

HS: Looks like neither one of them hit anything and they'll get rolling again as the caution comes out. That's a lot of track position lost.

DK: Looks like Herrin's left front got a little too far in the grass and lost traction.

Lap 79

HS: And we got a smoker over in 2. Randy McGillicuddy's slow and brings it into the infield.

DK: Tough break for team #8. He's driving 1 of the 2 Razorback Motorsports entries and his boss JR Sealey had just went a 2nd lap down. Not a great night for that organization.

Lap 117

DK: And we've got a hard crash in turns 3 and 4! That's the 12 car of Skip Itt! He shot to the right, clearly something went amiss in that machine.

HS: The track safety crew's on the scene and Skip's already climbing out. Glad to see he's OK. Looks like he may have got the wind knocked out of him though.

DK: Indeed, Hick, that was a violent impact.

White Flag

DK: And we have one lap to go for Rattlecan Dan. He has dominated this race since the green flag and there's no pressure from behind as he thunders out of turn 2. He's got about a 5 or 6 car length advantage over 2nd place Slim Tunone who's swapped that position back and forth with now 3rd place Jerry Lawley. But the checkered flag is in the air as Rattlecan Dan comes out of turn 4 to win the Hoosier 150 here at Stafford!

HS: And that, Dave, is what we call a good ol' fashioned butt whippin'! What a run by that 76 car and what a way to get this series kicked off!

DK: And with that, race one of the inaugural FAST Modified season is in the books. For Hick Strutlin, I'm Dave Knight. We'll see you next week at the Orange County Fair Speedway for the Monster Energy 111!

Yahoo! The 76 ran flawlessly. The crew did an outstanding job on prep and chassis set up. Thanks to all for a great race.
