:) Well, I have a dilemma.
I am getting ready to move to a retirement home. One bedroom apartment, which means 1/3 of the space I have had for the past 25 years.
I have 88 built models in the house. So what to do with them ? My family is not interested in them, the closest is 450 miles, and most of them do not even know they are here. I probably could sell them to the other Fred, or Dean's Hobby Stop or someone like that. But probably would not get much for them, risk breakage in the mail, and have to pack them all up, and pay that shipping. I hate to just throw them in the trash.
So, would there be any interest in this ?
If you guys remember any of them pre PB fiasco, or have been able to reclaim any of the pictures that were on Fred's, or have other ways to view them, I was thinking I would ship any of them to you, if you would just return the shipping charge, plus maybe $1 for me to get some more boxes.
I have no way to show them, and do not want to make a list. And even then, you'd want to actually see them.
I am trying to cut the number down to maybe 10 or 12 to take with me, which is not easy, and I am not really sure where to put them when I get there. Also, this is not a trade, so I don't want any built models or kits coming my way. I have 9 kits and 1 parts box collection going with me, and that will be enough to keep me busy. Plus I am planning maybe to do a little pen and ink, or colored pencil drawing. Probably some reading, and of course, there will be bingo, the big ice cream social, and exercise classes, not to mention day trips on the bus.
So ........... maybe this is a wild and crazy idea. What do you all think ? Any interest ?
John,
I would definitely enjoy having one of your builds on my shelf. Count me in. I have no real access to any pictures so I will leave the choice up to you. I will send you my address by private message.
Ricky
I hate to hear this about you moving into a retirement home. if when and where I've my surgery I will get my wife to ride down there to see you okay
:)Well, Mr. Rick, I will get right on it. Pick of the litter coming to you.
It is not that bad, Charlie. Only going to Raymond, southwest of Jackson. Probably closer to the Cracker Barrel too.
Charlie, it is not a nursing home, if that is what you are thinking.
John, my uncle Bob is a WWII vet, that moved out of some pretty classy digs into a retirement home. I really worried about him getting buyers remorse once the decision was made, but he is more resilient than I thought. When I asked him about it, he said that it's a lot like being aboard ship size wise, and makes him feel young again. He said even the food, and the coffee, had a familiar taste.
Oh, and we are not like family. Your friends you can choose, but your family your stuck with. Hang in there. If you weren't so far away, I'd have you save me a room. TTYL.
Olderndirt
:) That is a scream, David.
Marty, I spent a year in remote Alaska, at a radar site, so I think I can handle a place 2 miles from a town of 1600, with a community college and a Sonic Drive In.
Actually I visited this place 2 weeks ago, and was very impressed with it. On a beautiful 50 acre campus out in the country. The menu for Sept that they gave me looked pretty good, and I won't have to keep the grass cut.
You have a private message sir.
:) Thanks. I will go read it. lol
You have a private message.......
:) Got it.
:) This is great. I have had 4 guys express interest. I have started a list, and will go straight down it. So, please bear with me, and I will stay in touch with each of you until this is carried out. It will take me a bit to get them packed and mailed. I'll try to pack them as carefully as I can.
Two things to maybe keep in mind. First, plastic model cars do get broken in shipment. Second, we are probably better than anyone else at fixing them.
Thank you. Or, as the southern belles say, " Thank Youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.
:) :) :) :)
Great to hear John. Please don't worry about taking your time on my part. Regarding the "potential" for an 'on track incident'......no worries, you have some of the best 'pit crew' to get them 'on the track' again....lol
Thank YOU, John2
For such a generous offer!!
There is now hurry from this end either....take all the time you need on this....
:) Thanks, guys, to you. I appreciate your consideration of me.
I know what it's like to pack up build models, having done so around 20 times.
unfortunately, on several of those moves, ended up tossing built cars, unbuilt kits
the last real purge was leaving Orlando for Albuquerque, as I was looking to get back in to model railroading
But when I checked out what it would take to get back into that I about fell over at the cost, so started buying model car kits again....
unfortunately, not completing any.....yet.....did get a few started when in the house ABQ, but that was as far as things went..... :( :'(
John - Just sent you a message......BobD
:) Thanks, Bob. I will check it out.
QuoteThank you. Or, as the southern belles say, " Thank Youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.
You mean, "youuuuuuuuuuuuuuall."
:) lol It's in the mail, Ricky. Let me know when you get it, please.
I would be honored to add something of your choice to my collection, John!!! I will have you in my prayers as my wife and I are considering doing something similar to make our lives a bit easier, especially in the outdoor upkeep areas. Sending pm...gb
PM sent, John.📬
:) Received, and replied to. Thanks Greg. My best to you and your wife.
:) Ok, guys. I have 7 requests, and am working on number 2. So, please hang with me, and I will get this done. ;D ;D
This is fun for me to do, but will take a bit.
John, I already have one of your builds, so I would want to let others have a shot at them (plus the display cabinet is getting very full :-\). However, if you feel you need to lighten the load by jettisoning the JB Pinto, I would welcome it.
:) Well, let's see how it goes.
Hey John...It would be an Honor to have at least TWO of your builds in my collection. I'm sending you a PM...
PM sent John...
:) Thanks, Gary. I will check it out.
John,
I sent you an e mail.
I would be interested in the #4 you and I built together.
Bob
:) Thanks, Bob. You have email.
Boy, the response to this has really been something. Thanks to all.

You have a pm coming.
when I was a youngster, someone gave me a wooden roundtuit and was told not to go out and spend it right away...LOL
PMs seen and replied to....Thanks!
I received this model in the mail today from John.
I had no idea what build he was going to send me.
I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box to find this beautiful build.
I'm always amazed at the quality paint jobs John achieves with acrylic paint and a paint brush. Some very nice hand lettering also.
I will proudly display this in my display case.

Thanks John,

I received my surprise today, and WOW.......as Bob states, John is quite the artisan with his brush painted bodies. I'm amazed. Thank you John, for sharing your builds with the gang, DEFINITELY a cool and modest approach to thin your herd.
I will post up pics ASAP, but it will be a few days....I'm heading out of town for work related business. A HUGE "Thank you" again to John.....I'm honored to have a few examples of his collection in my home.
:) Uh oh. Can I get that one back, please ?
Only kidding. Trying to get some of these models a good home, and I know it has one here. Thanks, so much, Bob, for taking one, and showing these great pictures. Your photography skills are first class.
I appreciate it so much.
:) And thanks to you also, Thom, for taking some of the orphans. I am amazed at you guys.
Be careful on your trip.
Wow, Bob!!!
that one just slipped into your display case just like it had been there all the time!! :)
Koolness!!!!!!!
I had not seen that build bob received......beautiful work John! ;D
:) Ok, update Number 2.
I have mailed off 24 models, with 9 more promised. I am having trouble getting boxes, so bear with me, and I will eventually get to everyone.
I started with 88, and would like to keep about 10, but there are more than that special to me. Very hard to choose.
No way I could narrow mine down to 10........ :-[ I wouldn't know where to start, so I feel your uncertainty on choosing John!!!!!!
:) Thanks, Doc. I'll get to you eventually.
Yes, very difficult to choose, but I do know that they will be in good hands.

They will but I still don't think I could do it!!!! Your a stronger man than I am!!!!!
John - This model would look good on anyone's shelf! Nice!
:) Thank you, Bob. You are next on my list.
I believe I have probably built 300 models over my lifetime.
Picked up the package from the PO today....forgot to stop by PO the last couple of days
Fairlane handled the trip the best....
The '29 Ford #34 "lost" its rear push bar, no problem to get that one back up and running.
The blue #1d faired a bit worse, rear axle/driveline knocked off, along with R/f wheel/tire and shock, and side nerf bars,
The sprint car.......will take some TLC to get it ready for the track...
One "mystery" piece.... black "V" shaped bar....not sure where that one goes.....
Regardless of how these made the trip, I am very proud to have them in my collection!!!!
Thank you....thank you....thank you!!!! Really appreciate this!!
:) Thank you, Ed. You are very kind to say those things.
Not sure about the V bar, but I believe it was on the rear bumper of the 34 with the point up. If not maybe on the track roadster. Yeah, the late models don't have much to break off.
:) I appreciate everyone's help on the models. I am about through. Only a few more guys have made requests.
I found three boards up in the attic, that have been there most of 24 years, that I once made some shelves with by stacking some bricks between them. So, I am going to be able to take more models with me than I first thought. I saw that idea in a projects or woodworking book way back there.
When I moved here I had a whole wall of book shelves, so did not need that idea, but I can use it again, now, whenever I move.
I had completely forgotten about those boards. I think I can stack coffee cans between them this time.
You are quite welcome John!
At the moment the ones you sent me are on a small bookshelf I recently got, that is in the living room and in a position where I can look at them while watching TV.....
:) :) :) Ok, everybody.
Letting you know that I am done with my model give-a-way.
I have sent off, or delivered, about 44 built models. I thank y'all for helping me with the shipping charges.
If I have missed anyone, or shorted anyone, then please let me know, and I will make it right.
As mentioned earlier, I have found a way to take more with me than I first thought, so that is good. Thanks, again. It was a fun thing for me to do and to pay back a little for all you have done for me, which includes put up with my rambling at times.
John2
John I for one don't mind the ramblings at all!!!!!! Always love to hear from ya!!!!!!!!! Thanks a ton!!!!
:) My pleasure, Dr.
John,
Have always liked reading your ramblings! They make for some interesting reading... :)
You are one cool ramblr, John!!! Ramble on, my friend!!! You're one of the glues that holds this place together and makes it interesting!!!😎👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🤗🏁
;D Giggle.
You've been a staunch member on this forum and I certainly hope all goes well for you John. Time catches up to all of us sooner or later. I'm feeling it slowly sneaking up too. Keep in touch!!
Rett
:) Thanks, Rett. I have enjoyed knowing you. I don't plan to lose touch. Just have to be low key here for a bit.
