Title: guess I AM a kit collector...
Post by: sentsat71 on December 20, 2017, 09:49:58 PM
Went looking for a couple of kits the other day, one being a snap kit I got through buying a raffle ticket for the model car club drawings in Albuquerque, a '63 Corvette Convertible, as other selections that I was interested in, were won by someone else, or did not like any of the others available....
But couldn't find the old Monogram '55 Ford P/U issued in 1978 (box art kit is in yellow, and also molded in yellow)
Meanwhile I found that I've bought over the years, 12......TWELVE......Grant King sprint/supermodified 2n1 kits, 11 from DTR/AMT/Ertl (one issue date is 2004 and another is 2006, but have not checked the other release years and found one of the 1986 releases...
Six (6) 1934 Ford P/U....five from Lindberg and one AMT, my guess would be the late '60's, the 1st(?) with the stake bed dual rear tires.....
5 Revell Kurtis MIdgets.....3 with the Offies and 2 with the Ford V-8-60.....though, one each (Offy & Ford) were given to me by one of the model car club members along with the last(?) issue of the R/M sprint car.....

But for me.....what I don't have "enough of" is the R/M Edmunds super modifieds....though did not dig all those kits up.....as, IIRC, i only have 4 of the ones issued through DTR around 5(?) years ago....but bought the one in the late '90's that came with the trailer (red #65) waited too long to buy the other one of my LHS's had in stock when I bought the 1st one, as back then I definitely was not looking to build model cars......(too "busy" collecting NASCAR 1/64th scale cars) In the early days of FRW, IIRC, "sold" the trailer, IIRC in a 3 way deal that got me another of the just the Edmunds kits......then saw someone wanting just the trailer but was not interested in the Edmunds part of the kit, so got  #3......

Now.....have started at least 2 of the GK kits since they were out starting in 2006 and one of the Edmunds kits........

Won't even get into the collection of various Tobias style modifieds (AMT) or the MPC modifieds....managed to latch onto some of the GTO and Monte Carlo Super Stockers, back when they were fairly cheap.....
Also have a number of the old AMT Modified Stockers, got most of those back when Wal Mart carried models....In fact when I drove home from ABQ to Iowa in 2007. if I passed a W/M I would stop and see if they had any in stock....did find a few....

In short.....since I tried to get back into building models in late 2005, when I knew at some point would be going from an apartment to a house, I started buying kits......and am now addicted.....to buying kits, but not building..... :( :( :'(   as I stopped counting a few months ago when I hit 100 kits, which is not all of them.......just didn't seem that I had that many..................... :o

 :) :) :) :) :)

I have an idea.  Why don't you just sell all the contents, get your money back, and keep the boxes to look at ?

Just  poking fun at you, Ed.

Hmmmmmmmmm....  :) :) :)

And if I ever move again.....I could just flatten the boxes and wouldn't need so many packing boxes/storage tubs........   ::) ;D ;) ;D ;D ;D

Whatcha think???

Oh.....does this mean you want the contents of these kit boxes???????    ;) ;D ;D

Not sure if I can match your sense of humor...John2

Thanks!   ;) :) ;D

:)  No, no.  I have only 11 kits left, which I have fully intended to build, but have now come to the conclusion that I will  probably  never get them done.

When I first started building models, on the 3n1 kits, I always had trouble deciding which version to build.......never thought back then to buy more of the same kit......
trying to remember what my 1st duplicate kit was......thinking it was the Edmunds supermodified, but it was not built box stock, as that was the one that I built the little red #54 as my first time doing a true kit-bash, not rebuilding existing builds into something else.....think all but 2 of those "modified" rebuilds are ancient history, most didn't survive the '70's.....am sure there are plenty of those I no longer remember......

John2.....
I know I will never even come close to building all that I have in my collection, but just cannot stop buying them....if I had the money, I most likely would have many many more kits...  ;) :o :o
Just have to figure out how to get past that stumbling block and start on some of them....at least the ones I've started......    :( ::) :'( :'(
