Title: Off the radar
Post by: Olderndirt on July 29, 2018, 06:11:47 PM
Will be pretty hit and miss for a few days. We are in the middle of the California wildfires in Lake and Mendocino Counties. We were evacuated yesterday, and the rest of Lakeport just got their notice an hour ago. Our home wasn't in the worst of it, but things can turn on a dime. Had to choose between my firearms, and my models, so the models are on their own. Not sure if they all go up in smoke I'll continue. I have been building since about 1958, but I may be too old to start over.

...What is the name of the fire incident impacting your area?  The reason I ask is the news reports here in fly over country have been referring to them by name...Carr and Cranston are a couple of names that come to mind...not knowing  my California geography much more than where the big cities are located doesn't help in pin pointing exact locations.
There are some on line scanner feeds dedicated to the fire fight in California....
https://www.broadcastify.com/listen/feed/20854
This is the Northern California Major Incident talk group...Nor-Cal CalFire Air Ops & LNU Incidents.  Currently the status is that the feed is offline until next event which is good news! :)
I used the online scanner feeds recently to monitor what was happening in Iowa reference the Tornados that impacted the state on July 19th and the Duck boat incident on Table Rock Lake in Missouri that happened the same day.

There isn't much that I can say to ease the tension and stress of being evacuated....just know that we all are thinking of you and that our hopes are that you are able to return to life as you knew it.

:)  Naah !  It only takes one kit to have the  hobby.

But I do wish the best for you.  I cannot imagine being faced with that.  Sometimes, to us over this way, it seems like all of California has burned, or is on fire.  Prayers and good thoughts for you all.

Don't worry about your models they're just things. You and your family's safety is most important.  plus you're never too old.

IIII'MMM Back!!!2 evacuations, 2 shelters, 20 family members, house pets, and 10 milk goats, now that's a hillbilly evacuation. But, everything survived. The yard at home looked like it had snowed there was so much ash.

Welcome back!   I fallowed this particular fire incident a little bit closer than I usually do due to the fact that there was someone, you, who was directly impacted by it.
So for future reference, is it Lake or Mendocino county that you reside in?
