Title: NEW POLL - Potential Common Kit Build
Post by: David Bogard on October 04, 2019, 10:18:56 AM
No sure when or if this might happen but if a few more folks get one of those old '34 Ford pickup kits, that little group might just build them as a common kit. I need to get another one as the one I have is currently under construction. I know Lefturns has one as well as John2 and DirtModWrench. Heck, another handful and we'll all take a month or something and each of us can put our own spin on this wonderful little old kit!! Just an idea. . .

Sorry David.  Without seeing this,  I posted a similar idea under Community Builds.  I think Annie G and I both might go for that.

She's tooling around town right now in her van, so when she gets back, I'll ask her.

I've got 7 of those kits......with more or less definite ideas of how I want to build at least 3 or 4 of them.....

I would be tempted to join in, BUT.....

1. I don't have that kit, and

2. As many of you know, I am a somewhat slow builder.

But I will be watching with interest from the sidelines.

If it turns out to be a 3 month build, I might have to get in on that. I know just what I would do with it, too!

Hey Steven, how about trying acrylics!  That’s something I want to try and figure out how to do without the solvent and lacquer involvement.  I bought some Gravity Colors paints and reducer which don’t smell as bad as what paints I currently use for a 60 Chevy pickup I’m building.  Oops, cats outa da bag now...I suppose I’ll have to do a build thread on it too, lol!!!  Anyway, just trying to figure out how to help you be able to paint in cold weather.

Hi Steven!  Unfortunately the Gravity Colors are meant for airbrush...unfortunately you may have to brush paint like John2 or wait for warm weather.  An alternative might be to warm the spray paint in warm water, run outside and shoot the paint quickly and back indoors quickly.  I’m out of ideas I guess...perhaps others would like to share their winter painting solutions!

Would this build have to be from an original kit, or could I use just an aftermarket resin cab as the '34 part? Sort of a Frankenstein build. Heh heh. Just wondered. I would be OK if it required the kit to start with.

What does the aftermarket cab have?

Uh......pretty much nothing with it. Just a chopped resin cab. I should probably just buy the whole model kit, unless somebody has a few of them, and would trade for something?

I saw a 1:1 street rod of our truck today.  Metallic green..  So cool.

John2...
Question on brush painting.....Do you paint directly on the plastic, or do brush on a primer first?

David, guess we missed the poll, but will vote soon.

Sounds good to me.  March 31.

We are going to swap out our bedroom and "fun" room beginning Jan. 1.  We need a bigger "fun" area.

So the extra time will be to our advantage.  My glue and exacto knife share space with hers plus thread, needles, succulents, and cactus.

What a great life.

Sounds good to me, too. I think it is a fair compromise between 1 and 5 months to build.
