A delightful little kit that was fun and easy to work with!! I will definitely be building several more of these in the future as there are so many variations that can be built from the box contents. I can see an old and weathered version of the above; then a Hot Rod; then a bone stock pickup; then. . . who knows what else! A special thanks to Greg Holland for my door decals!

What a nice little truck! Looks almost like the Walton´s truck. I know, it was a ´29 Ford, but this type of pickup reminds me on John´s truck :D :D

I like your hot rod idea of this truck, a chopped roof would not be a big problem, because of the strait cab pillars.

Nice decals and towing equipment.

Super slick, David.  Very nice.

Mine will be a baby blue street rod with chrome spokes.

David you are a building machine.  That is a sweet little truck.

That is a very COOL looking service truck!!

Don't remember who had it, or if it still available, but there was an extended cab in resin for this kit....(Jimmy Flintstone?)

One of these would also look good pulling one of the Revell Kurtis Midgets....?

Excellent little truck,it looks great.

You better close that tool box or you'll have tools all over the road.  :)

David, I have the Revell '32 sedan which has chrome spokes.  Not sure I can mix AMT/Revell on  that, but if they don't fit,  I like the kit reversed wheels for it.  And I have boo coo Keystones which might work.

I am hoping we do the January community truck thing, and if so, Anne and I both will do it.  We are going to HL tomorrow to get her a kit.  She wants to do the service truck.

JOHN2, hope I catch you before you go to HL.  I went by one yesterday and they had the AMT and the Lindberg version of this kit.  For some insane reason I picked up the Lindberg version (not remembering I already had one).  The Lindberg version has the stake bed without duals.  You have a choice of stock wires or some funky two-spoked curved knife blade type of wheel.  They do have some nice stock Armstrong tires, custom Goodyear tires, however the "drag slicks" are from one of the NASCAR kits - not really realistic for a drag truck.  The Lindberg version does have the service truck parts.

Fantastic build :), although I don't know about that hand crank....I think I'll wait til the P.T.O or electric winch version comes around :P  ohh and also...are you an AAA service provider?

Thanks Rick.  The HL at Vicksburg Ms did not have the AMT kit, nor did I see an empty space marked for one.  They did have the Lindberg kit, which we chose not to buy.

We do have HLs at Flowood Ms and Madison Ms so will check them soon.   We want to do the common kit.

The Lindberg branded 34 kit IS the AMT kit.  Granted they did change up the custom wheels and tires in the Lindberg version but that kit comes from the original AMT tooling.  The latest offering has the original pieces restored or retooled and if you look, you will see those same old ugly custom wheels that was in the Lindberg offering on the chrome tree.  Dont let the brand on the box be a factor, they are both common as pinto beans and cornbread and are the same kit.

For you guys pining away for the duals to come back for the stake bed version, why wait?  Make your own very easily.  In the following photos I have two tires from the stake version, a two piece stock wheel and a wheel back I dug out of my parts bin.  Simply file or sand off the lip on the junk wheel back, mount it between your tires and then mount your wheels.  You can use any wheel suits you, I used the stock items for an example.   Simple and easy and pretty much the way the original was done.

I believe they are basically the same kit, from the same molds.  There have been some variations over the years so depending on which manufacturer is offering it will determine what is in the kit.  I would REALLY like to find one of the stakeside kits with the duallys.

For some of you that are still a little confused and not sure, here is a short history of the 34 pickup kit.
1962-63  First issue AMT Trophy series kit with box art much like the current release.  The box was smaller.

Second issue Trophy Series version 1965.

Third variation about 1967-68 with some Dave Wilder box art.  Kit included a cardboard fold-up of Olens service station.  The same display can be found today in the Three Stooges version of the 25 T kit now called Oilys garage.

Around 1969 the stake version came along in the plain box art with those "Duallys" you guys crave.

The next was the Street Rods series that came along around 1973-74.  The stake was deleted and the kit returned to the pickup version.

Around 1975-77 the Stake Version returned, not long before AMT was sold to Lesney/Matchbox.  The kit vanished and was not seen again.

Then in the early 90's the AMT tooling for the 34 was found by-----George Toteff, the man that created the AMT 3 in 1 kits to start with, bought the tooling and produced the kit under the Lindberg label.

Lindberg produced the kit in a number of different box art releases and once again today, the same kit is offered under its home label AMT after Round2 purchased all of the Lindberg holdings.  Thats the story, it is what it is.  There were no doubles, no clones or copied tooling.  Get one and enjoy some modeling history.

Thanks for the history of this kit.

The stake version from around 1969 was the first time I remember seeing the kit....though I could have forgotten seeing one of the previous releases
It was the version from '73-'75 that was my next one....
Took the chrome wheels/tires from the my first one (unpainted)..painted the stake bed parts after pulling from the original build.
That build lasted until 2005, when the last BIG purge came, between unbuilt and built kits
Don't remember when I started grabbing the various Lindberg releases
One of the last bought was the last time AMT released the kit with the stakebed on the box art....

Here are the 2 other '34 Ford P/U releases

Released in 2006
(https://i.postimg.cc/3xRZrwmf/100_3336.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/rKB4QMh5)

Released in 2008
(https://i.postimg.cc/L8b3JMV9/100_3337.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/yD0ZGt5t)

Have no idea of other releases by Lindberg between the 1992 release which according to the version I have which resembles the box you posted and these two before R2/AMT got the molds back when they acquired Lindberg.....
Even though the 2008 release does not show the stake bed on the box art the those parts are in the kit....

Chances are I was not looking for the kit during the 90's and up until to around 2005 when I started buying kits again....

It is obvious to me that what I have done here is inadvertently hijacked Davids thread on his 34 build.  This should have been a different thread all together about the kits history and dual wheel setup.  So.....I suggest you go back to the top of this thread and eyeball Davids little jewel.  It is top quality and if that don't make you want to build one of these things you're just not into building.  I am sure he will give us a few more versions to look at and I look forward to them and I promise, David, I will stick to the topic at hand when I comment and not get diverted off on a bus ride to Cucamonga and all points west.

Sweet service truck, David!  I started a hot rod pickup some years ago with a chopped top and a z’d from front and rear!  Might be time to revisit it!  I have a couple of unbuilts on the shelf for the community build, too!!!  Great subject matter and I love your builds.  Gotta get back on the Chevelle also...🏁
