Post by: Greg Birky on March 19, 2020, 05:48:33 AM
My latest build is a Revell 67 Camaro resurrected from the stalled project shelf and completed!

That is a sweet build, the color is subtle.  Looks like a lot of those that were on the roads around my home.  I asked my father for a Camaro for a graduation present (class of '67, yeah, I am old), he looked at me and broke out in a fit of laughter.  I got a '56 Chevy 210, 6 cylinder, 3 on the tree a couple months later after I got a job and saved the $100 to buy it.

I know what you mean.  My step-father and I didn't get along very well. So....I bought a 49 Dodge Wayfarer for $50,  from a friend, and drove it until I was old enough to get a license. And, oh yeah, very nice build!!!

Kind of a "sleeper" looking Camaro but that engine......excellent!

Thanks guys!!!  Fun build even though I had a few frustrations with it.  I wanted to tone it down so I took on the monumental task of removing the molded in lower body molding.  I highly do not recommend doing that unless you just love being a glutton for punishment.  I got the results I wanted but I wouldn’t do it again.  I dropped the rear axle and rolled over it with my chair so I used one from a 69 Camaro kit.  Paint is Model Car World Gobi Beige which I bought to build replica of my 70 Nova which I wish I had held on to.  Thanks again, guys!!!🏁🏁🏁

I thought this color was close enough to Butternut yellow to get away with it.  I need to order more paint to build the Nova...

Very nice work Greg. It looks just like they were back in that time period.
The real cars were for GO, not for SHOW.

That's super nice, Greg.
I really like how the lines around the doors & trunk look.
Sets it off well as does the dog dish hub caps.

Very nice Greg - even "nicer" in person! (Good to see both wipers intact - LOL!)

Thanks to each and every one for the kind words!

First off, the door and trunk lines are deepened with a Tamiya panel line scriber and darkened with Tamiya Panel Line wash.  I ordered them both online since my LHS didn’t have them.  I find that for street vehicles most modern tooling has very shallow panel lines, especially after cleaning up parting lines and smoothing body panels.  My Camaro is pined with lacquer and the panel line wash easily cleans of the adjacent panels.  If you’re using enamel be sure to read this tutorial:  https://scaledworld.net/tutorials/panel-lines-by-marcos-cruz (https://scaledworld.net/tutorials/panel-lines-by-marcos-cruz)

And another:

As far as the wheels, I made an amazing discovery...AMT NASCAR wheels and dog dish hub caps are made to replicate reversed rims, chrome or painted.  Most dog dishes cover the spokes so all you have to do is adapt them to your particular model.  I painted mine for the desired look but they are amazing looking in chrome as well.

Thanks for the interest and questions!  Any other questions, just ask, guys 🏁🏁🏁🤗
