Title: (ON THE BENCH) Moe Harden 00 from 1962

This is going to be a replica of the Moe Harden driven number 00, that was new in 1962.
They raced at Lincoln and Williams Grove speedways in Pa.

I believe the body is a Chevrolet but I'm not sure.
I'm using a 34 Ford Big Donkey resin body for the build.

I first cut the roof off and moved it back into the trunk area about 5 MM.
Then cut a section out of the front door area about 4 MM.
Then narrowed the body. You can see the cut lines in the picture.

You've got a good handle on the profile Bob. Are those louvers the decal type? I've used the rivets many times and like them a lot but I have never had an occasion to use the louvers.

David,

I found this plastic hood in my scrap box. It was the perfect width for the narrowed body. It must have been from a smaller scale body. The louvers were already in the hood. I got lucky.

Looks like you've got another beauty in the works Bob!  Was this called a super-modified class?

That looks great! I don't have the talent, knowledge, or patience to do this type of modifications so really enjoy watching others do it.

That pretty much says it for me....
Will add this, have no LHS to go check out the supplies I want or need. "Shopping" online just does not really work for me.....out side of chasing kits.....

Is the frame from Big Donkey as well?

To answer a question from Bob D and Sentsat71.

The frame is from Big Donkey resin. It is already narrowed, from Big Donkey, for the cut down builds. The quick change rear end is molded into the frame. It's good for a shelf build, not great detail.

These cut down coupe body cars were referred to as Bugs here in Pa.
Up till late 1961 the stock cars were full body coupes, usually 1930 to 35 Chevy, Ford or Plymouth bodies.
Then for 1962 they started narrowing the frame, shortening and narrowing the bodies. By the end of 1962 they started removing the bodies and just covering the roll cage and trunk area with sheet metal.

Progress update.

It's painted and waiting for the sign painter.
Decals and red vinyl paint stripes are coming from Greg Holland. Should arrive early next week.
I will keep you updated.

 Boy does this bring back memories. A friend of mines dad owned one of the local auto parts stores. He sold all kinds of parts for cars, and farm equipment, did machining, and also sold auto paint. Racers would come buy and want him to sponsor them, so often he would give them paint that had been incorrectly color  mixed. More than once I heard people at the track ask why there’s were so many yellow race cars. The reason was that this parts house mixed all the paint for the school buses in the county, and the counterman that worked there was color blind, and didn’t know it. So, when he mixed certain colors, they didn’t look quite right, so he would “fix” them. There were quite a few yellow hot rods in our town as well, for the same reason.
