This is outstanding work Pikepole! Any information on your techniques and what specific cars you are trying to build? Super impressive scratch building!!

david for some reason I like whelen  modified cars. I think their engineering is really great. Being from Midwest I look up chassis shops that build them an go from their. I have some fred's and big donkey bodies that I use.  My big problem is the front suspension.
The car in picture I use a asa chassis an modified it to fit the body. so far my scratch build suspension is not to good.  I do not work
on  hobby a lot due to health.  It will take some time to get finish, but fun to work on.

If you've got some photos of a Whelen front suspension and you can send them to me (or post them) that would be great. The one or two I've built in the past were just from watching on TV and were not particularly "accurate". I think I used the front of an old Slammer Chassis. I agree with you on those cars; they are awesome looking and wicked fast!

As David says, this is really great.

Way beyond me, but I love Whelen  too, and am hoping Salvino does the one being talked about.  The only kit I intend to buy in the future.

Welcome to our little corner of the world.

Might be easier to email me any suspension photos Pikepole. I have sent you my email address in a private message. We'll figure this thing out!

Although I have never been to a Whelen event, and even though I lean toward vintage race cars, I do like the Whelen cars. I look forward to seeing more of your excellent work!

Not sure if these photos provide enough detail of the front suspension components you are attempting to emulate, but thought I'd post them. I can try and get some better detail shots of the the lower mounting points. May be over at the shop later in the week.

Pikepole - Really like the work on those frames.  Are you using some sort of scale drawing/template on top of that wood to lay out the main rails? If so, can you share where you got it from?

Really good shots Mark! What is the diameter of those A-Arms? I'm thinking maybe #222 Evergreen rod could be used to fabricate them as that would scale out to about 1 5/8" in 1:25 scale?

I think A-Arms are 1inch for upper and lower 1'' or 1 1/4".

David - I think Evergreen #220 or 221 would be the scale size to use.

Whoa! I didn't know they were that small in diameter. Think #221 or #220 would be stout enough in styrene? It would certainly be easier to bend and fabricate! I'm just trying to help Pikepole get down the road with his front suspension and this is really valuable information DirtModWrench.

What size would you use for spindle?

In my opinion, I would likely fatten that up and use at least #222 styrene; maybe even use .062 mm brass rod or some such thing. K & S makes all shapes and sizes of brass and aluminum rods and shapes. It will mostly be hidden behind your hubs and I would want it to be strong and not sag under weight. For instance, that Tobias Modified I currently have posted has brass spindles in my fabricated poseable steering. Just too little of a piece carrying too much to chance it otherwise for me. I would also direct you to a current thread Tom is working on and scroll down and look at his latest spindle fabrication. It's pretty compelling.

Hopefully DirtModWrench and some other builders will have some better input this.

....Don't know if any of this will be of any help to you.  Looks like you already have the front suspension set up on at least one of the chassis.

I scratch built a set of offset upper and lower control arms to be resin cast....I used a few references to be sure and get the true and accurate measurements , angles, etc. etc. verses just taking a wild guess.
Before I was able to do the first pour , I built a jig for the upper control arms to keep everything angled properly...the jig is a must, without one the results will ,more than likely, be less than desirable.
Every thing pictured uses Evergreen plastic.  The round rod pieces on the upper control arms are Evergreen 221.

  As far as spindles go.......
David is absolutely correct on using K&S metal for the spindle.  As far as the diameter goes the tubing needs to fit tightly inside the wheel back.  If you decide to go with styrene plastic , make sure it fits tight as well into the wheel back and use solid rod, no tubing....I've carved on round sprew pieces to fab spindles as well.

The suspension I used on the one chassis came with the ASA kit I used.  I modified the chassis and added a scratch  cage. Your upper control arms are a big help. thank you

You may already have this figured out, but I took a couple of pics of the lower suspension parts as they are mounted on the car. These views are looking at the left front from behind the front end with the steering wheel cranked all the way to the right.
