Title: Experimenting With Custom Decals
Post by: spotter23 on June 26, 2018, 01:47:30 PM
I recently have been working on some random decals for a couple of builds. I had some laser decal paper from Experts-Choice paper from Bare-metal Foil Co. (laser), which I’ve had for several years. I needed to print a name with the letters outlined in orange & the fill color needed to be white. Since white is not possible I chose silver, & after printing the decals, what I saw on the decal paper was acceptable. However when applied to a black body the decals went transparent. I just used power point to make the decals but I had them printed at a commercial printer, coated them with 2 coats of micro sol film but was disappointed with the results. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

it was clear decal paper...........but if you use white, how do you just get the "Letter" or the design you want without everything around and inside the places you wan the car color to appear without having to trim every single letter of every single word etc....or is that just the down side?

Thanks for your responses..........wonder if I sent a file to someone who does a good job or has the equipment, if they could what I need? Obviously I would be willing to pay for the service.

All the custom decals I have used on my builds I have posted here were printed for me by Bernard Kron.  Now I don't know the details of how he does it but these are on clear decal paper with no white.  Anything white in the logos is taken care of as I am putting them on a white car.  He is on a number of forums and does some nice decal work on his projects.  He is not using any special equipment that I know of but if you were to PM him on one of those forums, I am sure he would give you some ideas.

Here's what has been working for me using only 2 MS programs..  MS Works Word Processor (used to print decal sheets) and MS Paint (design, color, and size the decal)....you don't necessarily need a White bodied car.

Some of these I ripped from the net...the smaller contingency decals....the others I designed, colored and sized using MS Paint...the 7's , the 427 C.I's, Omers, Henry's, Hayes House of H.P...the 427's and Omers are in a Red block that I trimmed down before applying....    Using MS Paint I was able to match the color hue (Red) that is the body color.  Printed on White decal paper.

Here is what Omers looks like after I trimmed the excess Red part of the decal...the 427's on the hood have the same appearance...same as with the Topeka, Kansas that's under Hayes House of H.P

Greg, are reading this?

Thanks for the heads-up David...

Spotter23:

Yes, within limits, I can make whatever decals you need, including white.
The White is a separate decal, and depending on car color, you may need two layers of white.
Send me a PM, and we can get started...

Greg has been doing all my decals for several years.
He is also doing custom decals for a friend of mine.
As David mentioned above, he is a great guy to work with and does an outstanding job on the decals.
Try him you won't be disappointing.

Bob
