Painted the stuff red that is supposed to be red on this particular car. The tubes on the floor will need to be painted black to match the cage.

Rattlecan Dan

Looking awful nice so far. Keep up the good work.

MarkJ

Thanks again, Donato. Looks like rain next week so it will be hard to squeeze in some paint sessions.

MarkJ

Removed the masking and cleaned the airbrush for the next round of painting. This time it will be all the black items whenever the weather allows it. In the meantime, I can work on the grille and engine which can be painted with a bristle brush at the table inside.

MarkJ

Got the black parts painted that I can do with the airbrush. Some will have to be painted with a bristle brush. I also got the body masked to paint the gold.

Good looking build taking place here Mark. As always your attention to detail is beyond reproach. When I saw the blue taped body, Terry Labonte's Piedmont car came to mind.
When I win the Powerball I will switch to the real ones.

Thanks, Rick. Just hoping for a chance to get outside and shoot the gold. This pesky rain just won't go away but it beats having a drought. I'll eventually get an opportunity to get her done.

Mark. I don't comment enough, but wanted you to know that I really appreciate you posting all of your step by step work. I read every one of them and I always learn something. It's inspired me to fabricate more of my own parts. Thank you!

Thank you, Tom for the kind words. I'm glad you find my stuff helpful. I do it also for myself because I forget how to do things and looking back at old builds reminds me how to do it.

Just need to paint the grille/front bumper and I can move on to the engine. I'm not going to do anything under the hood except the engine because I'm trying to keep this build simple and I really don't have any ref pictures of the under hood of this car so I would just be guessing anyway.

MarkJ

I'm going to say I'm finished with the grille front bumper part. It's not that great but it's much better than if I had left it oob with the giant gap between the hood and the grille even with the hood completely flush on the sides. And I wanted a 1971 grille and bumper instead of a 1972 grille and bumper. I could not find one actual 1972 Monte Carlo that was used in the 1972 season. They were all 1970 or 1971 Monte Carlos. There is a spot I need to touch up on the right front fender next to the right headlight cover. I will do that before I clear the body.

Rattlecan Dan

You?! Touch up a spot? Unheard of. Lol. I wish I had a dollar for every spot you've touched up. You are great at never over-looking littlest details. Keep up your usual fine work. Car looks exciting already.

I agree with Rattlecan!

I agree with Rattlecan!

Thanks Steve. But I'm starting to rethink how I'm going to finish this one. Do as little as possible. Like don't do an engine so I can glue the hood shut and just paint the belts on the seat. I'm getting antsy to get to the decals and put this one in a case on the shelf. That was supposed to be my original plans for this build but somehow, I got carried away.
