Mark, purely out of curiosity, why is the majority of the front bumper red instead of chrome? i never saw a version that looked like that during my research on this car... which likely wasn't as thorough as yours was.

Dave, Only the Southern 500 car had the red bumpers. If you watch the 14-minute YouTube video of the 1972 southern 500 and watch the car closely as it comes in the pits, gets serviced and leaves, you will clearly see that the majority of the front bumper and the whole rear bumper were painted red. I have posted a bunch of captured shots of it earlier in this discussion too. I will post some in this thread as well. I could find no photographs of the Southern 500 car so I'm not surprised that you could not either. also, you will see that the font of the numbers on the door and trunk are different too.

Shot the clear on the body yesterday because there is an African dust cloud coming and is supposed to hang around for a few days so painting outside would not work unless you wanted a grainy finish on your model. Used Tamiya x-22 acrylic clear and it worked very nicely. I don't think I will have to polish the body before decaling it. I went ahead and glued the hood shut because I really don't know what it looks like under the hood so why waste the time?

Cut the top out of the left front inner fender and will do the same to the right. I also added some styrene where the holes go through the frame for the metal axle. since the hood is glued shut it isnt a problem all though I could make a new top for the inner fenders with some sheet styrene. I did this so I could put the front tires where they need to be for proper stance. Last pictures so a mock up of how it will look.
