I grew up and still live about 30 minutes from Winston-Salem, NC and Saturday nights at Bowman Gray Stadium were a regular thing since I was about 10 (although I'd been once when I was about 3 or 4). My favorite division has always been the Stadium Stocks and ever since I started building models, I wanted to build one. I attempted it years ago but the results weren't very good so I decided to give it another try.

The base kit is a Revell '90 Mustang, the wheels and tires are from a 1/32 Monogram SnapTite kit, and the 4-cylinder engine is from an AMT 1977 Ford Pinto.

I will be following you on this one. Speedracer and I did a mini stocker buddy build about two years ago. Same thing for me, wasn't in love with my finished Pinto. Speedracer's looked great. I'm wanting to try it again.

I might, have to look. I'll have to email them as I can't post pics here since getting an iPhone. Pretty sure I already have your email address.

I'll be following along also. I've raced pretty much everything, but my heart will always be with my ministock. Yeah, Volzfan59 and I had a great time with a buddy build using the AMT Pinto kit as starting point. I thought they turned out pretty good. If y'all have never done a buddy build, you should try one. It's a blast!

Went to Bowman Gray a few times in the 60's. Not a whole lot of interest in the cookie cutter cars. Still need to go back down there just to watch the modifieds. The modifieds I remember were coupes with fuel-injected big block engines. Drivers like Shorty York, Pee Wee Jones, Glenn Wood, Billy Hensley, and others like that. What are Stadium Stocks now used to be called Hobby Stocks and were primarily '55-57 Chevys with six-cylinder engines or a stock 283 with a 2 barrel.
Looking forward to this build. Are you going to model after a certain driver or is this going to be a fantasy build?
When I win the Powerball I will switch to the real ones.

This will be a fantasy build. Got a few ideas for what I want to do. Just got to pick one.

Edit: Saw Volz's Pinto and it looks pretty cool!

Realized that the transmission with the engine was an automatic so I swapped it out for a manual from an AMT NASCAR kit.

Also got started on the chassis and interior. Gonna try and use the door cages from the early 80s AMT Richard Petty kit.

Tires are ready and I stripped the chrome from the wheels. Gonna make hubs with 4 lug nuts for them.

Smoothed the body out a little and cut out the inner part of the quarter windows. Those along with the rear window will be left open like most of the cars I watched growing up. Also, instead of making new headlight covers, I decided to use the headlight glass from the kit. I sanded the ridges out of them, stripped the chrome from the stock headlight housings, and went ahead and mounted them to the body. Planning on doing the rear similarly.

Decided to just use the corners of the stock tail lights and run a sheet of styrene across the middle of the panel. Went ahead and mocked it up with a spoiler from a Monogram Pontiac.

I have the correct manual transmission (1983 MPC Mustang GT) ...it's yours if your interested.

Gonna pass but I appreciate the offer. :D

I'm pretty happy with how the roll cage is coming along. Added an extra bar to protect the driver's head restraints kinda like the ones on the modifieds. Also added a tab to the front to act as another mounting point for the body. Got the first wheel hub completed by using the lugs from the Monogram wheels. Took a while to do it but hopefully the other 3 will go a little smoother since I've got the process worked out.

Roll cage looks like it worked out really well. What are you using for the lug nuts and studs, did you say you got them off some other wheels?

Razorback 46

Yeah, I cut up some of the Monogram wheels and used the lugs from them.

Razorback 46

I think I'm going to redo that wheel. Not entirely satisfied with the result.
