Did not hit anything as my foot was off the gas, so was able to straighten the front wheels out without hitting the curb.....but it was close.....
what i liked about those Sunbirds was that the turbo kicked in at the low RPM range, unlike the Turbcharged LeBaron Convertibles the company had around the same time. those Turbos weould not kick in until above 6000 RPM, and one barely felt ti....
the down side for me was our small off airport office rarely saw the Turbocharged Sunbirds and V-6 Cavaliers. but always had plenty of the LeBaron convertibles around
Back in 1979 our Calif corporate operatons had Trans-Ams, but alas not with the potent Pontiac 400 CI engines as they could not meet Calif EPA emissions, so they had the Old 406 engines under the hood, but they still had decent kick to them. To counter that, the large Southern Calif. franchise operation had Camaro Z-28's with possibly a 350 CI under the hood, instead of a 305 CI. But we never had both "visit" our location at the same time. In driving them, using the auto trans like a "stick" shift, the Z-28 took off from the "line" faster, but ran out of gear almost immediately, whereas the Trans-Am could stay in 1st gear longer. Never got to prove my theory that the Trans-Am could have beat the Z-28 in a "drag race".....
Ah, those were the days, working for a rental car company......
