Title: #11 vs. #54 JGR drama
Post by: 18degrees on September 25, 2025, 04:55:04 PM
hey all, wasn't sure if everyone on here saw the last NASCAR Cup race at New Hampshire and knows about the drama between JGR teammates Denny Hamlin and Ty Gibbs.  not gonna recap it here beyond saying that Hamlin got tired of Gibbs holding him up so he put the bumper to him and spun him out of the way, barely missing collecting another teammate, the #20 of Christopher Bell.

i'm posting this here because the social media stuff on X that i have come across is laugh-worthy, at least to me.

i get the thing about Hamlin being in the playoffs and Gibbs, who isn't, was holding him up.  not sure whose side i am on with this one; Hamlin needs all the spots he can get but Gibbs (and any other driver in the field, playoff spot or not) should drive to win every race.

thoughts and opinions?

ps. sorry about the language in the first pic.

I don't care for either driver, so I can be unbiased. I don't think any driver should just move over because someone else is in the points playoffs. To me that's kind of like "fixing" outcomes. With that being said, I can remember little Gibbs dumping a bunch of drivers along the way, teammates included. So what goes around comes around. He wouldn't be in Cup if it wasn't for his grandpa.

I agree with you on all your points. I don't really care for either driver, team orders are for F1, and Gibbs has had his share of questionable driving. Race to win regardless of the situation

I stopped watching NASCAR a few years ago. They've ruined what used to be the best sanctioning body out there with their asinine decisions since the passing of Bill France, Jr.

But I digress, didn't see it live, only online. Was Ty Gibbs on the lead lap? If so, he shouldn't have just pulled over for Cryin' Denny. If he was one or more laps down, he should have used some discretion.

I do like what Ty Gibbs said to his crew chief after being crashed by a teammate, "Game on".

Grandpa Joe needs to get this out of control situation back under control fast....starting with his own grandson.  I don't have much interest in NASCAR these days, so I could not care less about the out come.  From a sponsors or possible sponsorship next season stand point, would you want your brand associated with this type of team ...JGR... with the infighting and feuding. I cant imagine any company wanting to dump millions into an operation where the teams within the organization are at odds with each other wanting their driver to wreck another teams driver instead of racing them like they should....you know, like back in the day when we all watched NASCAR.

I thought that there was a car to car channel at Joe Gibbs Racing communications disposal or at least a channel that is capable of a team wide broadcast to ,at least, have the ability to communicate the intentions of putting the car most apt to win towards the front, even if that means a team mate with a lesser chance has to move over.

I don't see Denny Hamlin winning any NASCAR popularity contest any time soon.

Good points made by all above. My opinion is that Ty Gibbs needs to look at the big picture here along with being a good teammate.....which he isn't. When a driver bumps you a couple of times and it's obvious he's faster than you, just let him go on by. If I recall this was fairly early in the race so you still have plenty of time left to make up spots later.

wow, more Hamlin drama at the track today... possibly due to his alleged lack of power steering, on the last lap and i do believe it was going into turn 4, Hamlin was racing with Bubba Wallace (a car that Hamlin owns :o ) for the lead and ran him up the track... allowing Chase Elliott to perform a daring maneuver and collect the win.
