this is going to be the #1s Drydene sprint car of Logan Schuchart. basic Saldana #71 Revellogram kit. did some chassis work to make it more updated than the 1980s Challenger chassis that was provided in the kit. ended up looking that the Triple X chassis website for a pic of a bare chassis and worked it off that. wheels from SWS Chassis and tires from Modelhaus.

i noticed in the pics that i must have taken them at a weird angle, the chassis looks warped... it actually does sit flat.
got the chassis and wing plates painted, used Tamiya racing blue plus dullcoat. it is supposed to match the color of the stripes and numbers. looks pretty close to me. maybe just a touch darker than the decals.

the wing board decals are going to have to be trimmed, they are too large left to right and top to bottom.
Color looks good to me.
Nice start.
got some decal work done today. looks like the contingencies are going to overlap the sponsors, not a good look in the end IMO. the Brad Sweet #49 Napa decals were like this too, just not to such an extreme. not sure if the producers of this decal tried to size it up after it was printed or not, the contingencies are too long to use in once piece, they will overflow around the edges of the wing... at least on the right side. i cut them into sections to try and reduce the space they occupy a little bit, hopefully it helps.
there is a post on Model Cars Magazine forum where someone built one of these cars, the decals fit much better on that one, i can only assume the builder used SWS Chassis stuff to build it and those components are bigger. it's definitely not a 100% Revellogram kit. wonder if the designer of these decals sized them around SWS stuff. i know that the Ace sprint car sheets tend to have additional decals and say something to the effect of "if you use SWS chassis" to build it use these different sized decals, which is printed on the instruction sheet.
here is the link if anyone is curious about that build-

anyway, enough rambling, here is the stuff i worked on today

did a minor wing shave on the right side wing

those 2 panels with the NGK logos i cut from styrene sheet, they go around the engine; got the shape from the Triple X product pages on their website.
got some wing work done, just need to do the wing supports for the right side board. decal fit wasn't as bad as i thought it would be... wasn't great (too big IMO) but they worked. also printed out some engine builder valve cover logos too.

I like it Dave. They're big, but the fit isn't terrible. I'm kinda missing Ron White though.

Thanks Steve. Yeah, the fit isn't too bad. I sectioned the contingencies and trimmed what blank area there was to get them closer together.
Ron White is a classic, but that Brad K. commercial is the funniest thing i have seen in a long time. Literally made me laugh out loud.
Here is the commercial mentioned, i used a Reddit link because my phone kept switching to the YouTube app when i played it from the internet. Love this...

And i'm gettin a little wild with the motor for some reason, added an oil filter and wiring the magneto. Pics up in the next few days if anyone cares ::)
I remember that commercial, it was funny. I was just messing with you about Ron White although I do love his stand up.

I have another pic/meme to put up, eventually, that i think is pretty funny too. But y'all will have to wait a little while. Hope the suspense doesn't get to anyone ;)

she'll run a 10.1 at Pevely ;)
that MSD decal on the mag was a pain...
and i didn't realize how grainy those pics are from my phone, wow.
Powerplant install and rear suspension are up next. Got the office area done.
Can't wait to see it Dave!
This one is taking a little more time than most of my sprint car builds, have a few things that i have to make a decision about... like the interior of the body panels are black or carbon fiber, not sure if i want to attempt carbon fiber decals or not. Front suspension rods are going to hook into the body work i cut because the panels cover the mounting pins, plus those pins were cut off when i modified the chassis.
So there's that... i'll figure it out, always seem to.
got s'more done over the last few days

cut some carbon fiber decals for the inside of on of the body panels, will see how that works out...
and i am thinking that i will glue those fabbed body panels in place so i can get the front suspension attached. everything but the nerf bars are painted and either waiting to be decaled or glued in place. the nerfs are going to be a different story, i have made these before but for this one it looks that the headers are going to cover the area where the part i have to add would attach to the chassis.
again, as i said previously, i will figure it out, i always seem to be able to. just that a lot of other things need to be decaled and in place before i can work on them.
Can't wait to see it Dave.
little bit more done, a bit of a mock up. front and rear suspensions are done. in the office photo you can see some of the carbon fiber decals. decal work on the hood and main body panels is delayed due to the carbon fiber factor.

Carbon fiber decals are done on the hood and one of the body panels. This is a real PitA, not able to cover everything due to angles and nooks and crannies and such but the outcome should be fine for a shelf build. Not gonna enter this into any contests. Didn't do all of the hood, just the visible parts, and the second body panel is coming out a little better i think. Applying the carbon fiber decals in smaller sections, the good thing is the decals blend together when they overlap. Lots of shape tracing, cutting and then more trimming, plus lots of decal set and massaging with a brush. Keeping my fingers crossed that when i apply decals to the outside of the body panels i don't damage the carbon fiber ones by handling them too much.
Pics will be taken and posted once the last section is done.
almost got the body panels carbon fibered, the decal sheet is from Slixx. they don't contour to the shapes and curves very well so there is a lot of decal set. they tend to chip a lil bit when handled so i am going to have to be pretty careful when i apply the decals to the outside of the panels. hopefully the gaps aren't too noticeable when they are in place on the chassis. thought about using a sharpie to fill the gaps. also got one side of the hood done. had to add some tube to the axle ends to space them out, the SWS wheels sit too far in for my taste, they are very close to rubbing the rear torsion bars. i anticipate that the right side headers are gonna be a tough fit with that extra lower panel in place.

Really coming along nice. Can not wait to see it done.
not much progress on this, it stalled out... just kinda lost interest in it. not sure why... it will get done, it's still in my work area, but i started on a different, somewhat obscure, one-off race build. and that's been moving slow, too, since i haven't ever built one of these kits (ASA Thunderbird) and have to actually read and follow the instructions.
and Steve, i changed my signature pic... hope you approve of this one ;)
i just wish that imgur still gave the option to size the pics, from what i can tell/find the message board format only has one size. someone please correct me with instructions/steps if i'm wrong. not fond of my signature pic being so big.
I love it Dave! Make those kids earn it. 😂 My two sons and I used to go to the go kart rental track and have at it. Probably shouldn't be one of my proudest moments, but we all got tossed out one time for roughing each other up. That was back when I had my 1:1 race cars. Good times!
