Hope that everyone stays safe in this winter storm. Sleet and cold in SE Arkansas. Waiting on this evening's ice storm. I hate winter

Some of our members are going to be impacted by the worse of the worse...ice storms that will be bringing down power lines...John Gorday in Jackson, Mississippi comes to mind.

The snow began falling here around 10 p.m. last night.  As of 11:30 a.m. this morning I can report an unofficial 3" on the ground...its still snowing...will be so until sometime this evening.  Current temp. is -16 windchill.
Last evening 5 p.m ish I went to our local Walmart for some absolute last minute items.  It looked like it did during the pandemic...bottled water was wiped out, paper plates, bowls ect. almost cleared out. What makes this even more concerning is that we have a Walmart distribution center here locally.
When it comes to weather, this guy is awesome..   https://www.youtube.com/@RyanHallYall  ..he will be going LIVE for 12 hours beginning around 1 p.m. Central Time.  I encourage you to check it out.

HA, I watch Ryan Hall too! Max Velocity also, but I'm a news and weather junkie. I live about an hour and a half west of John. power company did one of those all call things saying that if our area gets the projected 1/2" to 3/4" of ice there will be wide spread outages and they'd send out crews as soon as it's safe. Fingers crossed for us and everyone else!

Here in eastern New Mexico, I can report just a dusting of snow. Our issues are the 5° temperature with blowing winds a 10-25 mph sustained! I got two words for y'all: HOT CHOCOLATE!!!

:)   Thanks for your concern.  557 am , and still dark so, I can't tell much.

All week long the maps have shown us to be on the bottom edge of all this, so we have been expecting maybe to not get much of it.  The temp is 34 now but it has drizzled most of the night and I'd bet there is a little ice out there.

We are hunkered down anyway, and it is going to be very cold most of the week.  We don't mind staying in, but sure need power, heat, and water.

I'll let you know how it goes.  This far south, we sure aren't used to this.

Here in the middle of western middle of NC we have about 1/4 inch of sleet. No problems at my house. I think most of it has gone on by.

The winter storm has cleared the state of Kansas....just measured an unofficial 4 1/2" of snow.  The sun is out, its 6 degrees f. with a wind chill of -14 f.  Watching Ryan Hall https://www.youtube.com/@RyanHallYall presently...possible tornado warning somewhere within the tornado watch area that consist of southeast Alabama, southwest Georgia and the Florida panhandle.
Insane weather ...did someone say that the hot chocolate was ready? I'm ready for a cup.

:) It has moved on.  We are ok so far.  Some rain froze on the trees and bushes.  Ice on some roads.  Beautiful trees in the midst of such turmoil.   We still have power, heat, and water.  The schools are closed.  But it is going to be pretty cold, day and night, for this week.

The town of Oxford Ms, home of Ole Miss, has a major loss of power.

Useless to say, we are ready for spring.  Hope all our folks are ok.

BTW who is Ryan Hall ?

John, Ryan Hall is a YouTube weather guy. He's usually pretty doggone accurate. Another good YouTube weather channel is Max Velocity. He's a degreed meteorologist, I'm not sure about Ryan. Max gets the forecast right most of the time, especially where you and I live (tornadoes/ severe thunderstorms, etc). They're both better than our local weather guys. I watch them both, but I freely admit that I'm a weather and news junkie.

More major winter storms this weekend for the East coast and vicinity ....bomb cyclone.... is there any truth that NASCAR is still planning on running opening day Sunday at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston Salem despite the Governor declaring a State of Emergency and asking everyone to stay off the roads.

Ryan Hall is live as I type this (Saturday p.m) ....looks absolutely horrible out there...stay safe, stay warm.

:) Don't know about BGS WSNC.  The only NASCAR I keep up with anymore is the Whelen modifieds.

Anne found Ryan Hall for us, and we watched him on the storm for an hour or so, and from what we saw it would be impossible to race at BGS.  Thanks for getting us to RH, but I don't know how much we will watch him, as we stay pretty busy.

We have only had bitter cold this weekend.  We are thankful for that.

We ended up with a decent amount of snow here in the Piedmont area of North Carolina. Darn, guess I'll have to build car models all day.

Bowman Gray has been officially cancelled. I live around 30 miles from the Stadium. We got between 6-8 inches of snow here yesterday and right now at 12 noon it is 26 degrees with a wind chill of 15. They were still trying to remove all the ice from last week's storm when this one came in. I think they need to move it back to Florida
