“Chrome” removal with Super Clean

Hey y'all, hope all is well.

For those of you who soak "chrome" parts in Super Clean to remove it, what type of prep do you do after the chrome is gone?

I ask because normally i soak the parts in a tub of Super Clean then let them soak in a tub of water as a rinse, then let them dry. The problem i encounter is that at times the base coat (usually flat black) will "crack" when applied.

Am i missing a step here between the rinse and the paint? I soak all my sprint car chromed parts and the wings are a hugely visible part of the build and i don't want cracked paint. On the Ernie Irvan build i just posted the paint on the air cleaner housing was cracked. I let it be because it was under the hood.

Please advise if you have tips...

The only thing I do different is prime my parts before painting.

I use a Super Clean soak, followed by a soak in hot water/ Dawn mixture. Then I hit the parts with a soft bristle tooth brush and a soak in warm water. Let the parts dry thoroughly, prime and paint.

I pretty much do what Volzfan59 does except I rinse the parts in warm water while scrubbing with a toothbrush. There's no soaking; just a quick rinse.
