Well.....  My fantastic wife Anne was backing up her scooter this morning when she clipped a magazine rack, and drove it into our nice 5 shelf glass enclosed bookcase, which .....  you guessed it  ........ housed most of my built models.  It crashed to the floor, and .....   instant junk yard. Our cat, Hannibal, was the first on the scene.

She did not mean to, of course, and we all know the fun is in the building.  After that they just live quietly in obscurity, and they are just plastic anyway.  Took an hour and a half to sort it all out, and group the pieces as best we could.  A few hardly hurt, most damaged,  and a few pretty well done in.  Nothing to do but laugh.

The good is  that none of the glass in the case was broken, and that she has learned enough about model building to help me glue stuff back together.  We will both keep one on our workbenches to piddle along with as we build new kits.  We will see how much of it we can restore, and the ones we can't will still have a place on the shelves.

Oh, Man !!
John, I am so sorry for you guys.
First, thankfully no one (or the kitty) was injured and secondly, I know Annie G is beside herself.
We all know it was an accident.
I'm sure you will repair what you can and you know we all are pretty good at "reconditioning" race cars.
Give Annie G another hug and tell her it'll be OK.

Sorry to see John. I know I'd be sorry if it happened to me. But, like you say, it is just plastic. At least the case is okay for all your future builds.

No David.  The Edsel has its own special place in the house.  lol

Actually 7 or 8 were not in that case.

The late models, and pick ups did pretty well, though one truck has a cracked body.    But the open wheel stuff got hit hard.

Shucks john2, just pile all the open wheel stuff together and toss in a match.  You would be the only one I know of that would have a diorama of the 74 Hutchinson Nationals fire.  Just by looking at the pics, Anne out did about all the big ones at Talladega.

Oh wow!
That's a shame this happened, but know it was an accident....unfortunately they happen from time to time.....Anne had to be devastated over this....But life moves on, and between the two of you, most will in all likely hood be "be repaired" and maybe those that are not so fortunate be rebuilt in something a bit different.....

Thanks to everybody.  We began the repairs yesterday.  Will do a little at a time.

So far, we have 8 that either were ok, or have been repaired.  Probably dealing with 50 models here.

UPDATE  --  We have managed to rescue and rebuild 20, with 18 left to go.

But they are the open wheel stuff, and you know what that means.  The full body cars and trucks took the storm pretty well, but the jalopies, modifieds, and street rods were pretty fragile.  Lots of stray wheels and broken axles.

So, we will see.

Just put them all in a pile and call it Daytona or Talladega.
When I win the Powerball I will switch to the real ones.

Wow John, just finally catching up on the site and saw this...I feel awful for you and and Anne but thankfully not a total disaster and it sounds like you are both still friends afterward!!!  My only question is: what was the scooter doing indoors, lol???  Im happy for you guys and that so many were repairable.  Model on John and Anne!!!

Thanks, Gregg.

Anne had polio as a child, so she gets around the house on a scooter as seen in the picture.  She also has an electric wheel chair for use away from home, that she can just drive up the ramp and into our van.

And the van is equipped with hand controls, so she can drive herself wherever she wants to go.

We feel very blessed that she can get around so well.
