Inspired by Marty's B-24 post.   We have likely done this before, but probably y'all won't mind it again.

What other hobbies and interests do you have other than racing and models ?

For me, I have been learning to do pen-and-ink drawings  from a couple of books that Anne got me, plus some examples we found on the internet.

Don't seem to really have enough time for hobbies anymore - and I AM RETIRED.  Some of the problem is laziness, the other is driving a school bus seems to be taking some of the pizazz of out my daily routine; may have to give up some of that.  I do enjoy my vegetable garden, although it has been quite sparse the last couple of years.   Also enjoy tinkering with small wood projects and welding projects.  Although most of them are "work-required" they are still usually relaxing.  Overall I seem to enjoy taking raw material and forming it into something useful or visually presentable (models).
When I win the Powerball I will switch to the real ones.

Now? or in the past?

Current hobby that takes up most of my time is plastic canvas needlepoint, which I've been doing since 1989, after working with counted cross stitch 2 years previous. Between those two, it's what really got me away from building models.....

Back in 1973 after getting my 1st apartment in Southern Calif. I really got into building models....for the 1st year or so.....when I couldn't find kits I wanted to build, I tried model railroading in 1974, 2 years later sold what I had and switched to N-Scale model railroading, though still built a few models. The also around 1976 by brother got me interested in Plastercraft. which took away from both of the other 2 hobbies....Once I got started with the plastercraft, there were all kinds of stores around SoCal that had nice selections. A move at the beginning of 1981 cost me space to do much of anything in any hobby due to lack of space. That move also thinned out some of my model builds and especially kits never started or finished, with my 1st big purge. After a couple of more moves in 1984 & 1986, tried to get back into models. only finished 2 before switching to counted cross stitch, those being the 1st 2 Monogram sprint cars. After a couple of more moves in the early 1990's got hooked on collecting mostly 1/64 NASCAR die-cast which ate up most of my $$ until around 2003/2004 when that started getting too expensive.....What really helped my collecting the NASCAR die-cast was making trips to Central Fl during the '90's was the large Flea Market in Daytona....could find lesser teams there than anywhere else....plus catching some NASCAR die cast shows now and then....even after moving to FL in 2001, was still looking for more....From 1993 and thru 2001 kept track of how many NASCAR Cup and BGN cars I bought and cataloged. After that I didn't record what I bought or where I bought them...so from 1993 thru 2001 I bought 1,151 Cup and BGN cars. this does not count the then Craftsman Truck series or the 1/64th sprint cars i started collecting....or other NASCAR related diecast....Not only does that number include the current NASCAR teams of the aforementioned, but some '57 NASCAR Chevy teams, early to mid 1960's teams mostly 1963 - 1965 Fords and a few '63 Chevys.....

and now....collecting model kits......

For me the other hobby would be resin casting...casted some model rail roading parts and pieces for something different.
Another hobby,....I've heard it called a hobby by others but for me its been a useful source of critical information during times when I'm involved in emergency radio communications is radio scanning i.e a police scanner.
I've got 4 different types of scanners on the work table.  I usually monitor only 2 while working on a build.  Sometimes if there is a threat of severe weather in the area or a major event or incident that has happened or is occurring ,I'll have all 4 going with 2 being in a passive tone alert mode meaning that the only transmission I would hear is if the radio message preceded by a tone....same thing as a weather radio as an example.  Been monitoring since the mid 70's
For those of you who also may have scanners, here's what I got.
Uniden BCD996T ...base scanner...the work horse...has all my state interoperability talk groups as well as local city and county talk groups.

Motorola XTS 5000  X-police handheld 2-way that's been converted to a non-affiliated scan radio (I cant talk on this one ,monitor only)  Chews thru the multi path simulcast garble like a champ, can still monitor Topeka P.D some 35 to 40 miles away on the stubby antenna while sitting in the cup holder of the truck 8)

Radio Shack Pro 92  Got this handheld 20 years ago before everything went digital and was still analog.  Will fire this one up when severe weather threatens as there still is some analog on the FM side that can be monitored.

Motorola Minitor V pager  One of the channels on this pager is the Shawnee Co. rural fire dept's dispatch freq. with page out tones.
