Closing speedway in Calif.
« on: September 18, 2020, 07:59:52 PM »
Lakeport Speedway lost its contract with the Lake County Fairgrounds. There has been auto racing of one kind or another there as long as I can remember, and I’m seventy years old. I heard its due to the States defunding County Fairs. If thats the case there will be a lot of track closures in California.

Sad to hear.....

Just reminded me of tracks I've been to between 1972 and 2001...
Ascot
Speedway 605
Corona Raceway
South Bay Speedway (Chula Vista area)
Mesa Marin
Saugus Speedway
and one Northern Calif track that went to twice in 1972
San Jose Speedway

Well, now the fair board is saying they are in negotiations, but, word on the street is that racing in Lakeport is over. So, who knows. I hope they get it sorted out. Racing has been a part of the town for a very long time.

I think County Fairs in California are doomed, which is what will kill our local track. I wonder how many counties in California have a tracks on their grounds? If what I’ve been hearing is true, the governor’s plan is to close all of them, and sell the properties.
