´66 Gulf Ford Mustang
« on: November 30, 2017, 02:30:15 PM »
This is my 1966 Ford Mustang hardtop. I saw similar Mustangs at historic racedays at tracks like the famous Nürburgring.
I like the Gulf paint sheme very much, so i decided to do the `Stang in this colors.
Maybe the tires are a little to big? But i don´t like low section tires.
I´m urrently waiting for some photoeched hoodpins...

Thanks for looking!

and on a hauler:

That is one beautiful Mustang (<-redundant statement, 99% of all Mustangs are beautiful) .  Paint scheme just looks right on it.  Those are some monster fender flares.  By chance did you do a WIP on this build?
When I win the Powerball I will switch to the real ones.

What paint colors did you use on this, as well as decals?? I'm wanting to do a kustom fuel tanker with these colors and livery on it!!!

Hey doc,
thanks for your interest in the Mustang.
The paint are rattle cans from the craftshop/home improvement store. In the next bigger city to my home there is a
company, wich sells car paints for body painters and they are able to mix each and every shade of color you like
and fill it in rattle cans, that´s very useful!
Maybe there is something like this in your neighborhood?
The decals are all made on my inkjet printer. I found the #72´s and the Gulf logos at the web and reduced them to proper size.
The decals have at least 4 layers. For each decal i printed three layers on white decal paper, cut the logo thru the middle of the black/blue outline,
then print a final layer on clear decalpaper to get a full and sharp black/blue outline to finish the logo/#s. Tricky work, but it was worth it!
I need at least three layers of white decals to cover the black dividing line on the blue/orange properly.
Even the black dividing line is printed on clear decalpaper, because it´s a lot less and cleaner work than tape and mask the
areas beside the black line.
Then three final coats of clear and it was done.

Very nice work!!!!!! Love the look of it with the flares on it!!!! Thanks for the info, I did have a paint store that could fill aerosol cans but I don't anymore... Went out of business.... I do know someone that could possibly mix some up for me or have something close to it already in his line... Bob Dahl is a local guy here and a friend of mine. Gonna have to talk to him when I see him or call and ask...

Great looking Mustang. Very nice paint work and it sounds like a lot of work, on the neat looking decals.
