Thanks, Steve. I have decided to do all the tires first before I spoke the wheels. I'm almost through with the second tire and it seemed to go smoother than the first one which really isn't completely finished yet.

Began adding tread to the first tire using a rasp file in the soft putty to leave the imprint of tread. Had to spray alcohol on the file to keep it from sticking to the putty to allow the imprint to take. The alcohol should not affect the curing of the putty which takes 24 hours. I will probably have to lightly sand it and maybe use a file here and there to enhance the tread. Kind of tricky getting the putty to lay down flat enough to stick the file in it. I had to use the back of a plastic spoon sprayed in alcohol to smooth it down because the putty wanted to stick to the spoon instead of the tire.

I needed to redo the tread because there wasn't enough material to make proper tread across the whole tire. So, this time I put clear tape over the side to keep new putty off the side of the tire. It's really hard to get the putty to stick right after its mixed up and it will stick to everything else quite readily like the vinyl gloves you have to wear and the plastic spoon, I use to smooth it down to the tire. I had to use a spray bottle of 91% alcohol sprayed directly on the putty to keep the spoon from sticking to it. Once I got it smoothed down as smooth as I could this time, I used the rougher side of the rasp file to make the tread. I also had to spray alcohol on the file to keep it from sticking to the putty. It's a very tedious process getting this done. The alcohol does not interfere with the curing of the putty which takes 24 hours. I then removed the tape and started trimming down the tread material with a #11 hobby knife and will eventually use a belt sanding stick to finish up the tread. I then will have to touch up the side of the tire with some Mr. white putty wear I damaged it getting the new putty off the edge of the top of the tire.

I got the first tire pretty much finished. Just needs to be primed and painted. I think it will look a lot better when it is flat black. The wheel for it still needs to be spoked and then also painted with Revell chrome. the second tire has the center strip installed and ready for epoxy putty so I can finish it before making the two front tires which will be smaller in both height and width. Also need to spoke the wheels for them.

Unbelievable, that's some genuine dedication to the fine art of modeling. Few with such focus. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Donato. Ken Mouton guessed what it is so you don't have to think about what it is any more. It's a 1957 Maserati f 250 Formula 1 race car.

Congratulations to the winner :)  ..... I would have never guessed the Maserati.

And thanks to Mark, I learned quite a bit about a genre of car that previously I only knew a little about....a fantastic work in progress!
